Affilated Researcher, Nordicom, Sweden

Dr. Carl-Gustav Lindén is a media and journalism scholar at the Swedish school of social science, University of Helsinki. During recent years, he has mostly focused his research on news automation and business models for media based on fieldwork conducted in EU and the United States. Dr. Lindén has a background in business journalism and has worked as a communications consultant to United Nations University, among other clients. He is also an affiliated lecturer at the Södertörn University in Stockholm.

Executive Editor, NRK, Norway

Espen Olsen Langfeldt is the executive news editor for NRK – the public broadcaster in Norway. He has worked with news on mobile and news for a younger audience since he began in NRK in 2017. Formerly, he has worked as a journalist, correspondent and managing editor (paid content) for the leading national newspaper VG in Norway for two decades.

Fernando de Yarza is the President of Henneo, a news media group that includes 20 minutes and Heraldo de Aragon (Zaragoza, Spain). Fernando de Yarza is a member of the board and the executive committee of Vocento. He is Chairman of Taller de Editores, Spanish largest magazine publisher; President of WAN-IFRA and the Association of European Publishers News Media Europe (NME) and a Vice-President at the Spanish Asociation of News Publishers (AMI). 

Chief Revenue & Innovation Officer, ARA, Spain

Georgina Ferri has a degree in Journalism from the Autonomous University of Barcelona, also has a General Management Program at IESE Business School and an Executive Master in Digital Business at ESADE Business School. She is currently the Chief Innovation Officer in the ARA newspaper, a small newspaper in Catalonia that has a successful subscription model. She has a directive experience in public and private companies and has worked as a reporter in the main television networks in Catalonia and Spain.

Marketing Director, L'Orient Le Jour, Lebanon

Hanaa Gemayel Jabbour is the Head of Marketing and communication of L’Orient-Le Jour group. She is responsible for all aspects of marketing efforts including development of brand & digital marketing strategy, research, e-commerce marketing, strategic planning and brand awareness increase.

Since 2012, she is leading the digital development and transformation of L’Orient-Le Jour and Le Commerce du Levant.

Before joining L’Orient-Le Jour, Hanaa worked as marketing project manager at Orange France where she was responsible of digital offers. Hanaa joined France telecom group in 1997 and occupied various marketing and business development positions.

Chief Marketing Officer, Expressen, Sweden

Josefina Rickardt is Head of Analytics, Marketing and Consumer Revenues at Expressen, a Swedish multichannel newspaper with a weekly reach of 66% of the population in Sweden. Expressen is the most data informed newsroom in the Nordics, with visitors coming from all over the world to study its transformation from a legacy media house to a digital multichannel media house in the forefront of TV and analytics. Josefina is in charge of analytics, marketing and consumer revenues originating from selling newspapers in stores all around Sweden and from a digital subscription service launched in december 2018 which now has over 70 000 subscribers.  Josefina has been with Expressen for six years and worked previously at Swedish start up Sticky, an eye tracking and emotion measurement platform, and has a bachelor of science from Stockholm School of Economics.   bachelor of Science from Stockholm School of Economics.

Director Big Data, Agora, Poland

After graduation, Luiza took a job as an assistant in the Department of Applied Mathematics at the Institute of Economics at the Catholic University of Lublin. After 5 years of teaching and research in the field of statistics and econometrics he decided to use their knowledge in business, taking a job in Bank Zachodni WBK as a data analyst in the CRM department. Her duties consisted, among others, to optimize the effectiveness of sales campaigns and the implementation of analytical system for the bank. After few years she started work for Poland's largest e-commerce platform Allegro.pl, where she was responsible, among others, for the development of the recommendation system. From 2014 she is Director of Big Data Department in one of the largest media companies in Poland - AGORA SA. Her team develop big data system called DataOcean and is responsible for data collection and integration, personalization of content, user profiling, content structuring (natural language processing technologies).

Digital Content Editor, BBC Arabic, UK

Mai Noman is the Digital Content Editor for BBC Arabic. She is responsible for leading digital video content aimed at reaching young and female audiences. Before joining BBC Arabic, Mai worked as a Senior Journalist with the BBC’s World Service Digital Development team tasked with overseeing the digital transformation of the BBC’s 40 different language services. She assisted journalists in Africa, Asia and the Middle East set digital strategies and create creative visual content. Prior to that Mai was a video journalist with experience in finding innovative ways of telling complex stories.

Director of Video, Innovation Projects, JoomBoos

Matej Loncaric is Director of Video, Innovation projects, JoomBoos in 24sata, leading media company in Croatia, owned by Styria Group. Matej joined 24sata in late 2014 to transform cable news TV channel into modern and agile digital video department. Since then 24sata video started to grow exponentially; From two FTE's to 30 FTE's plus more than 40 contractors; from 500k video views per month to 100 M video views per month on all platforms from Facebook, Youtube and internal web player.  

Matej is  author and founder of today biggest YouTube network in Croatia – JoomBoos. Just one year since the launch, JoomBoos has won a particularly prestigious prize: the accolade of being among the most innovative media projects in the world at the INMA Global Media Awards in New York in 2017. – which is confirmation of the outstanding spirit of innovation. Video department has won more than 30 awards for it's drama series, musicals, talent shows from Digiday, Wan-ifra, INMA, Effie etc. Matej is today responsible for all innovation projects within 24sata.  

 

Lead Data Scientist, Financial Times, UK

Oliver Elliott-Taysom is the Lead Data Scientist for the Financial Times. He and his team develop recommendation engines for newsletters and content, dynamic paywalls and customer lifetime value models to support the FT’s subscription business. Before the FT, Oli worked as a data scientist and statistician at Cambridge biotech company Abcam.

Ravi Raman is a media industry professional, with over two decades of content strategy, digital transformation, revenue generation, brand marketing and team leadership experience. Currently he is the Associate Publisher of Vogue Arabia, and Wired Middle East.

He has been associated with some of the iconic media brands like Khaleej Times, Bloomberg Businessweek Middle East, T: The New York Times Style Magazine, Microsoft Network, India Today and The Telegraph.

Ravi Raman was the Senior Vice President of Khaleej Times, UAE’s oldest English newspaper. Where he successfully augmented the group’s portfolio with digital assets, native content solutions, events and conferences.

Prior to joining Khaleej Times, he was Vice President and Associate Publisher of Bloomberg Businessweek Middle East published out of Dubai, United Arab Emirates. He successfully set up the operations for the launch of the print and digital assets. Responsible for complete business planning, editorial strategy, recruitment of talent, training and execution of the business plan, he grew the operations across Middle East and North Africa.

Managing Editor, VGTV, Norway

Rolf Soenstelie is the editor of VGTV, a subsidiary of VG, Norway's leading digital media house. With 2.5 million daily users across all platforms, VG reaches half of the population in Norway. VGTV reaches over 2 million unique users per week. Soenstelie is a former managing editor at VGTV, at VG and head of the newspaper's political journalism.

 

 

Teaching Fellow, Google News Initiative

Samya Ayish is a Google News Initiative teaching fellow in the MENA region. Before joining Google, Samya worked as an online video and social media producer at CNN Arabic in Dubai, covering entertainment and cinema, and specializing in the Arab film industry. Samya focuses on visual storytelling in her work, creating ways to promote news stories across different digital platforms.

Editor-in-Chief, IDN Times

Veteran Indonesian editor Uni Lubis leads IDN Times' news team on the strategic, business and editorial fronts. She has been editor-in-chief at various news organisations, including ANTV, viva.co.id and as Managing Director of Rappler Indonesia, and has served the maximum of two terms on Indonesia's Press Council. Since her appointment in December 2017, Uni has been growing the IDN Times' news team to provide the country's millennials and Generation Z with credible and trusted news content. Independently-owned IDN Media was founded in 2014 and within three years grew IDN Times into Indonesia's fifth most-visited media site based on Comscore data.

CEO, Deepnews.ai & Editor, Monday Note

Frédéric Filloux is a French journalist and an entrepreneur. He is the creator of Deepnews.ai, a project aimed at surfacing quality journalism from the web by using machine learning algorithm, a project that he started as a Knight Fellow at Stanford. He is also the editor of the Monday Note, a newsletter/blog that covers digital business models and technology since 2007. The Monday Note reaches between 30,000 and 60,000 media professionals each week and the newsletter has 13,000 subscribers.

Since 2018, he is an associate professor at Sciences-Po Journalism school.

During the academic year  2016-2017, Frederic was a Knight Fellow at Stanford University, along with seventeen other media professionals selected for the program. That’s where he started the Deepnews project.

Before that, Frederic spent four years as head of digital operations for Groupe Les Echos, France's leading business news provider. From 2007 until 2010, Frédéric Filloux was working as an editor for the international division of the Norwegian media group Schibsted ASA. In 2002, he was part of the managing team that launched the free daily 20 Minutes, which became the most read newspaper in France with 20 local editions and 120 journalits. Before, he spent 12 years at Liberation, one of the most innovative French media at the time, successively as a business reporter, New York correspondent, editor of the tech section, manager of online operations, and finally, editor of the paper.

He also has experience in the advertising business after a one-year stop at the Paris Groupe BDDP agency (now TBWA). He is a graduate of the Bordeaux School of Journalism.

Frederic is a board member of Reporters sans Frontières (Reporters without Borders).

Machine Learning Engineer, Axel Springer AI

Malgorzata Adamczyk works as a Machine Learning Engineer at Axel Springer AI, the Artificial Intelligence unit of Axel Springer SE which is the largest digital publishing house in Europe. Previously she was a member of Data Science team at idealo.de, an e-commerce business. She worked on projects in domains of Natural Language Processing, Computer Vision and currently is exploring the potential of Generative Adversarial Networks for image generation.
