    A look into the new digital newspaper printing plant in Jersey

    On 13 May 2016 the new digital newspaper printing plant KP Services (Jersey) Limited opened on the British Channel Islands of Jersey. Jack Knadjian will provide an inside look into this new plant. In his case study, he will present on the Kodak Prosper 6000P Press and how it was designed for publishing applications such as newspapers and books and print at speeds of up to 1,000 feet (or 300 meters) per minute on standard newsprint paper delivering close to 3,000 newspapers every hour. They are ideally suited for print sites that have to print a large number of low-volume titles. It would not have been possible to print so many titles with such a diversity of print runs (less than 300 to more than 15,000) and some with very high page counts using offset technology.

    Isaksen will give a brief overview of the Danish Press and the process of moving from 45 gram to 42,5 gram in 2009-2010 and to 40 gram in 2012. The technical challenges as well as the financial advantages in price and transportation costs observed after this transition will be presented.

    Gogus will present on Hürriyet’s challenges including fast migration to digital channels, strong competition in classified business from internet companies and need for an integrated perspective of digital and print journalism. With respect to the multimedia transformation currently under way at Hürriyet, Gogus will explain the several initiatives including but not limited to revamp their mobile channels, reinventing several other external channels for engagement and traffic, converged teams based on need and priorities, making video a seamless part of their journalism and product experience and touching lives of their readers not limited with news but in an extensive fashion.
