CEO and Editor in Chief, Svenska Dagbladet, Sweden

Anna Careborg CEO and Editor in Chief of the daily Svenska Dagbladet. She is also Head of Premium content and digital storytelling and Co-founder of #Storylab15. She joined Svenska Dagbladet in 2004. At SvD she focuses on digital subscriptions and is particularly interested in questions about how journalism can be developed in the new media landscape.

Raju Narisetti previously was Professor of Professional Practice at Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism and also Director of Knight-Bagehot Fellowship in Economics and Business Journalism.

Previously, he was CEO of Gizmodo Media Group, a group  of digital journalism sites that included Gizmodo, Jezebel, Deadspin, Lifehacker, and The Root.

A media executive with a track record in creating, rethinking and managing major media organizations  in North America, Europe and Asia, Raju was previously Senior Vice-President of Strategy at News Corp.

Prior to that, he was Managing Editor of The Wall Street Journal Digital Network, where he is responsible for WSJ's digital / mobile content strategy and execution;  the Managing Editor of The Washington Post, where he led the integration of its digital and print businesses; the Editor of The Wall Street Journal Europe; and is the Founder of Mint, the second-largest business newspaper in India.

Raju is a Board Trustee of the Wikimedia Foundation, which manages Wikipedia. His home is in New York City though he is often found, rather plainspoken, @raju

Head of News Division, Le Figaro Group, France

Bertrand Gié heads the Figaro Group's News Division, which includes the daily Le Figaro, the website and the magazine Le Figaro Magazine. He joined the Figaro group in 2006, where as Director of Digital Media, he contributed to the creation and development of, the leading information site in France with more than 20 million readers per month. A member of the Group's Executive Committee since 2013, he has worked on the design and implementation of the Group's digital transformation and has collaborated on the Figaro Group's diversification strategy. Bertrand Gié is President of GESTE, the association that brings together the main professionals who publish content and online services. He also chairs the ACPM's Digital Commission and is a member of the board and treasurer of the Online Publishers Association (O.P.A. Europe).

Chief Content Officer, The Athletic, USA

Paul Fichtenbaum is the chief content officer of The Athletic. From 2012-2016, Paul was the editor-in-chief of the Sports Illustrated Group, overseeing all of Time Inc.'s sports properties across digital and print. Previously, he was editor-in-chief of and a senior editor at the magazine. Over the course of his 25-year career at SI, Paul has won numerous awards, including an Ellie, Emmy and Webby. In 2014 he was named Editor of the Year by Ad Age.

Head of Analysis, Bonnier News Brand Studio, Sweden

Johan Wilberg has been in media and research since 2005 and with Sweden's family-owned publisher Bonnier since 2013. A market analyst for both print and digital at Dagens industri and Bonnier News since 2013, he nowadays mainly focuses on native advertising for the publisher's award-winning Brand Studio. He has been a speaker at several digital media events in Sweden and continental Europe. Born in Norway, he studied at the University of Salford in England and started his media career in Stockholm in 2005. In his spare time, Johan is a dedicated football coach for a kids team and a private pilot.

Helge Birkelund started his professional career in the local newspaper Romerikes Blad. After many years in the publishing industry (Cappelen, Gyldendal and Egmont) and seven years in Microsoft, he returned to the local newspapers and started as a business developer in Amedia, where he has been on the board of HeltHjem, TicketCo and several other startups. In recent years, he has been Vice President of Sports and rights in Amedia and is behind the massive commitment to live sports.

SVP of Product Development and Operations, RBS Group, Brazil

Andiara Petterle is an entrepreneur and executive of the digital market since 1998. Currently, she is senior vice-president of Product Development and Operations at Grupo RBS. Previously she was vice president Newspapers and Digital Media for the same group. Before joining RBS, Petterle was the Executive Director of Strategy and Business Development at e.Bricks, RBS’s investment company focused on the digital industry. At e.Bricks, she acted as an advisor to several technology, e-commerce and media companies. She founded Grupo Bolsa de Mulher, one of the largest women's digital media companies in Latin America, and was CEO of Predicta and other digital companies in the country. Petterle has a bachelor and a master’s degree in Social Communications from PUC-RJ, was an invited researcher at Brown University, and has participated in business training programs at Harvard Business School and Stanford University Graduate School of Business.

Peter Soetens’ career is all about the digital transition of organisations. Peter started his career at the VRT, the Flemish Radio and Television Broadcasting organisation, where, as a programme manager, he launched the first fully digital production platform and later held several management positions. In 2011, Peter joined Corelio, which later became Mediahuis, and, since then, as Director Digital News Media, has been working on the digital growth of all brands within the Mediahuis group. From 2017, Peter has been combining his role within the Belgian organisation with the position of Director Digital Innovation & Development at Telegraaf Media Groep (TMG), where he is responsible for the successful digital transformation of the company.

Enrique holds a BA in Sociology. He began his professional carreer in advertising at the media department of Univas Ibérica. At the age of 24 he was appointed Director of Media at Unitrost, and four years later, he joined Bassat Ogilvy with the same responsibility. In 1988 he moved to Madrid to direct Holos Media, the media agency of the J. Walter Thompson group. In 1992 Enrique founded Media Hotline, an advisory company focused on marketing and advertising for media companies. Always involved with professional associations and trade bodies, he founded the "Asociación de centrales de compra" ( Central Purchasing Association) with a group of professionals of his trade. He actively participates in the forums organized by AMI, through its technical commissions, as a member of the board of directors and vice president for a period of 8 years. Partner of the Advertising Academy, since 2013 he is a member of the board of directors and general secretary. He has participated in various courses and seminars on media.

Partner of Deloitte Spain with more than 19 years of experience in the field of professional services. Since 2016, he has been a national leader in the "Media & Entertainment" and "Technology" sectors. Leading, additionally, the development of "Strategic & Reputation risk" services for all sectors of the Firm (Corporate Governance, Strategic Risk, Brand & Reputation Risk, Crisis Management, Sustainability, Risk Sensing). Her professional career is linked to Deloitte in its majority. Since she joined the firm in 2000 he has been part of the main processes of concentration, strategic redefinition and restructuring of leading companies of both industries, of the same way that I have led audits and exits to stock market, of companies listed in Spain and the USA. She is a member of different relevant committees in the Firm, such as "Business and Sectors", "Innovation", "Social Action", and "Alumni Program", which she has managed since 2016. Noemí Ramírez is Chief Digital Officer at PRISA News (El País, As, among others) where she leads the Product, Analytics and Audience Development areas, accordingly to the business' strategy, objectives and digital transformation process. Previously, She was Product Director at PRISA Innovation, chief editor at El Mundo and worked at Investigative Reporters and Editors (IRE), the largest investigative journalism association in the US. She has a Master in Journalism from Missouri University, thanks to a Fulbright Scholarship. She is an habitual speaker at several digital media trends fora.

Sumi is a freelance reporter, writer, editor, and news anchor living and working in Berlin for more than a decade. She covers politics, breaking news, immigration, and economics. Her reporting has taken her across Germany and Europe. Sumi is currently a senior news anchor at DW News (Deutsche Welle), Germany's international broadcaster. Sumi reports on Germany for various international publications, including The Atlantic, Foreign Policy, Washington Post, Al Jazeera, Global Post, Newsweek, PRI, and USA Today. She served as an editor at the Berlin Policy Journal, Germany's premiere English-language foreign affairs magazine.

Senior Research Associate, Reuters Institute, UK

Alexandra Borchardt a senior journalist, keynote speaker, media consultant and Senior Research Associate at the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism at the University of Oxford. As a Director of Leadership Programmes at the Institute until July 2019 she developed and led on the seminar series “Oxford Perspectives”, targeting senior journalists, editors and media managers. Prior to this, she was managing editor of Süddeutsche Zeitung (SZ), Germany’s leading quality daily.

Alexandra’s main focus is digital transformation and how it impacts the media, democracy, the workplace and human behaviour. She teaches “Leadership and Strategy in the 21st Century” at TU Munich, gives lectures and talks on digitisation and the media and publishes opinion pieces with Project SyndicateNewsMavens and theEuropean Journalism Observatory. She is the author of Mensch 4.0 – Frei bleiben in einer digitalen Welt (Freedom in a digital world), Guetersloher Verlagshaus (Random House), 2018. She serves as vice chair of the Council of Europe Committee of Experts on Quality Journalism in the Digital Age.

At SZ she held several functions in the politics and business sections. She was also founding editor of Süddeutsche’s ‘Plan W’, an award winning quarterly magazine for women and business. In her reporting she has focused on internet and democracy and the future of work. In 2015 she published Das Internet zwischen Diktatur und Anarchie: Zehn Thesen zur Demokratisierung der digitalen Welt (The Internet between Dictatorship and Anarchy: Ten Assertions about Democracy in the Digital World), Süddeutsche Zeitung Edition Streitschrift. Before joining SZ she worked for Financial Times Deutschland and Deutsche Presse-Agentur.

Alexandra holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from Tulane University, New Orleans (1994), and in 2013 completed a Programme for Management Development at IESE Business School, Barcelona.

Louis Dreyfus is the President and Publisher of the French Groupe Le Monde. He is also President of Huffington Post France and leads the board of directors of weekly magazines Télérama and Courrier International. He is a board member of Agence France-Presse (AFP) and Vice-President of the supervisory board of news publisher Groupe Nouvel Observateur.

Dreyfus graduated from the HEC Business School and London School of Economics (LSE). He held executive positions at Hachette Filipacchi Médias (HFM) in the U.S. and France, and at the French daily newspaper Libération.

Senior Consultant, Global Advisory Team, WAN-IFRA, Sweden

Cecilia Campbell is a media journalist who has covered the news publishing industry internationally for the past 20 years, living in the UK and Sweden.

Cecilia has been part of the core team for the WAN-IFRA exec programmes on digital revenues and mobile platforms (now eRev) since the launch in 2006, covering industry reader revenue developments closely and building up a solid international network of leading media companies and professionals, particularly in the US and across Scandinavia and northern Europe. 

She has been a correspondent for World News Publishing Focus for the past 20 years, as well as being involved in WAN-IFRA research projects. In recent years, Cecilia has authored a number of our industry reports, including on Data Privacy, Ad Blocking and the 2017 iteration of World Press Trends. In 2018 she wrote Engaged Readers Don’t Churn – Retention Lessons for Digital Subscriptions, which gained international attention and has led to numerous consulting and speaking engagements for her at industry events around Europe.

Javier Kraviez is Chief Customer Officer at Clarín where he leads the areas of print and digital subscriptions, Big Data & Analytics, Customer Relationship Management and Benefits Program 365. With more than 15 years of experience in the media industry, he previously worked as Clarín's Marketing Director, responsible for the publisher's cross-platform business, with special emphasis on the company's branding strategies and the development of new products and audiences.

He is an Industrial Engineer graduated from the Technological Institute of Buenos Aires (ITBA), with an MBA at Torcuato Di Tella University and began his professional career in the financial market at the United States.

Catarina Carvalho was former Executive Editor at Diário de Notícias, the oldest national daily, part of Global Media Group, Portugal. She has been responsible for the digital transition of the newspaper – now only on paper on Saturdays. She has been a journalist since she was 19, working with many national newspapers and magazines – Diário de Notícias, Visão, Sábado, Expresso – covering justice, social affairs, and immigration beats, before becoming a reporter at large and holding leading newsroom positions. She is also a member of the Online News Association and part of the editorial board of Nonio – the Portuguese media publishers single sign-on.

Matt Lindsay has over 25 years of experience in helping businesses increase operating margins and grow revenue through economic modelling and analytics. Over the past 19 years, he has developed pricing strategies and predictive analytics models for clients including the Intercontinental Exchange, Gannett, The Home Depot, NRG Energy, Tribune, IHG, McClatchy, the Walton Foundation, Coca-Cola, UPS, Dow Jones, Chick-fil-A, Clorox, Scientific Games, and The Georgia Lottery. Matt is also a published author, releasing The Relationship Economy in 2017, co-authored with publishing data experts Xavier van Leeuwe (Telegraaf) and Matthijs van de Peppel (NRC). Managing Director, Mediapart, France

Marie-Hélène Smiejan-Wanneroy is a founding shareholder of Mediapart, the eleven-year old French internet native daily news site, with today over 160,000 paying members and 4.7 million unique monthly users. Steadily growing since launch, Mediapart broke even eight years ago and generates today > 15% profit margin — without advertising. A group of stable shareholders co-founders and journalists own 62% of equity for 11 years, just transferred to a foundation. Managing director since day one, Marie-Hélène Smiejan-Wanneroy oversees shareholding, administration, finance, marketing, technology, communications and customer relations. Over ten years her team has grown from three to 43. Marie-Hélène graduated from the ESSEC business school and holds a degree of Chinese from INALCO (she spent 1975-76 in China). Prior to Mediapart she had a long career in information technologies. She created her first company in 1981 and sold it in 1989. Subsequently she held management positions in a number of European IT groups. In 2003 she created a consultancy to advise investors in China. In 2007 she joined Edwy Plenel to launch Mediapart.

Adrián López Ortiz is has a BSc in Engineering and a Master in Humanistic Studies from Tec University in Monterrey. Where he was awarded the "National Recognition for Ethical Training" and currently teaches ethics and citizenship. He is author of "A country without Peace", "Essay of a provocation" and Culture in "Sinaloa: narratives about the social intricacies and the violence"; He has been a panelist for FUNDAR, CIDE and Article 19, and was also part of the serial "Radical Realism" of the Institute for the Economy and Peace of New York as a peacebuilder in Mexico, he has been columnist for Noroeste, Sin Embargo,  and Vanguardia and a regular contributor to national radio and television news. HE has a Master in Administration with special focus on Innovation and Creative Leadership by the Berlin School of Creative Leadership with a fellowship in Germany, United States, China and Japan. He is a frequent collaborator WAN-IFRA on issues regarding freedom of expression and digital journalism and has been invited by the universities of Columbia and Notre Dame to talk about journalism and peacebuilding in Mexico, he is currently General Director of Grupo Editorial Noroeste in Sinaloa since 2012.

Nick started as a customer service advisor before building a career in Customer Experience over the last 15 years at leading global brands. His approach is to keep Customer Experience simple and human and leverage the contact centre as a key source of insight. He is currently Head of Customer Experience at Sky España, where his end to end customer experience remit stretches across all areas of Sky’s first ever organic launch in a new country.

CEO, Save the Children, Spain

He was awarded a BA in Economics and Business Administration at Colegio Universitario de Estudios Financieros (CUNEF), a Postgraduate from IESE Business School and Postgraduate in Management of Non-Governmental Organizations from ESADE.

In the early years of his professional career, he worked in the publishing sector, in which he held the position of CMO and Corporate Editorial Manager at Grupo Editorial SM, overseeing the strategy, processes and editorial development teams of the Group in the 9 countries in which it is implanted.

11 years ago, he reoriented his professional career towards the Third Sector, joining UNICEF Spain as Marketing and Fundraising Director, and becoming the vice-president of UNICEF's International Think Tank Fundraising. Since 2014 he is CEO in Spain of the international NGO Save the Children and member of the International Steering Committee of Save the Children.

Deputy Director, WAN-IFRA Global Advisory

Since joining WAN-IFRA in 1997, Valérie has accrued more than 20 years of experience as a media journalist. Currently, she is a team member of WAN-IFRA's Global Advisory division where she works with the Advisory Team in leading global consulting projects. She is also the Programme Lead for WAN-IFRA's top global conferences including: World News Media Congress and our Digital Media Event Series. She has contributed to numerous research reports, including  Alternative Revenue Streams for Publishers. As part of her research, Valérie interviewed numerous publishers who had found success discovering new business models - whether its through events, e-commerce, video or marketing services - Valérie has experience taking the pulse on what generates revenue for publishers.

Gabriela Bolognese is Chief Digital Officer at El Mundo, one of the main newspapers in the Spanish-speaking world, where she leads audience development and digital transformation at the heart of the newsroom. Previously, she was Head of Media at Yahoo! Spain, in charge of all editorial production and distribution for the Yahoo! brand in Spain. Born in Argentina, she gathered a wide experience there working as senior journalist and editor, covering an extensive variety of issues, including sports, entertainment, and technology in print, radio and digital media.
