Michael Cooke

Michael has been a creative force in journalism for more than four decades. His leadership roles include being Editor-in-chief at the Toronto Star, Chicago Sun-Times, New York Daily News and Vancouver Province. He was VP Editorial of the Sun-Times Media Group of Greater Chicago. He has held numerous other roles in newsroom management, before which he gained hands-on experience in reporting and editing.

Michael is well known for having driven investigative journalism success at the Toronto Star from 2009-2018.

He has specialized in media development and training in many of his roles and since leaving full-time work at the Star, training and consulting in dozens of countries across four continents. He is Chair of Journalists for Human Rights, based in Toronto.
