  • Dr. rer. nat., Associate Professor at the Department of Computer Science at NTNU, Norway

    Kerstin Bach (Dr. rer. nat. from University of Hildesheim, Germany) is an Associate Professor at the Department of Computer Science at NTNU. Her research interests are intelligent decision support systems, data analysis and knowledge-based systems, particularly case-based reasoning.  She teaches machine learning and advanced knowledge-based methods at NTNU and supervises students in the field since 2007. Her genuine interest in machine learning techniques and their application lead into participation in various EU and industry funded projects at the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence as well as NTNU. Currently, among other research activities, she is the project manager of the selfBACK EU project that develops an eHealth application for low back pain patients. She enjoys discussing AI methodologies and applications with fellow researchers, but more importantly teaching it to students and bringing it into multidisciplinary projects and thereby shaping the new digital world.

    Dato' Sri Haji Mohammad Najib bin Tun Haji Abdul Razak is the sixth and current Prime Minister of Malaysia. He was sworn in to the position on 3 April 2009 to succeed Abdullah Ahmad Badawi. Currently, Tor is at the University of Cambridge, where he is finishing his PhD in Economics and Strategic Leadership focusing on “big data” analytics implications for business model innovation and leadership practice in the publishing industry.

    Zaffar Abbas is the Editor of Dawn, Pakistan's oldest and most prestigious English language newspaper. He has been a journalist for 37 years and has worked for a number of national and international news organisations, including 16 years for the BBC as one of its Pakistan correspondents.

    Mr. Abbas is a keen follower of the Pakistani and regional politics, has covered the civil war in Afghanistan from the days of the Soviet occupation. The last few years have been mostly dedicated to reporting and analyzing the rise in religious extremism and terrorism in Pakistan, the tricky peace process between India and Pakistan, as well as the complicated political developments in the country.
    Because of his bold and objective coverage of armed militancy in the country he twice faced the wrath of different militant groups in the past, but luckily survived with non-fatal injuries.
    Mr. Abbas is a strong advocate for ethical journalism in Pakistan, and has long been campaigning for creating a safe environment for working journalists in the country.

    I started my career in the banking sector, where l worked for the British Bank of the Middle East for two years. In 1997, I moved to Dubai Media Incorporated and worked at its Financial Support Services Department for nine years. Afterwards I moved to the publishing sector, where l worked as Director of the Subscription and Distribution Department and later as Deputy General Manager of Al Bayan Newspaper, before l worked as Executive General Manager of four newspapers, namely Al Bayan, Emarat Alyoum, Emirates Today and Emirates 24/7. I then moved to DMI as (CMO) Chief of Commercial Affairs and Marketing Officer for the TV channels, newspapers, radio channels, printing press and Tawseel Company. Now I'm the CEO of Press Sector in Dubai Media Inc.

    Meanwhile, I have always been responsible for the administrative side (Human Resources - Information Technology - Financial Management - Sales - Marketing) and the link between the media and administrative sides of DMI.

    Furthermore, I have contributed to a number of DMI's major projects, most notably Al Bayan's paperless hall, the re-launch of Al Bayan Newspaper, the conversion of Emarat Alyoum from a free newspaper to a paid one, the conversion of Emirates 24/7 from a printed newspaper to a digital one, the inception of Ara Magazine and the foundation of Tawseel Company.
