Jon Clarke is a Newspaper man. Commencing his Newspaper career at the age of 10 delivering a tri-weekly newspaper from his bicycle. His father a Newspaper editor of note, his mother the accountant and his grandfather an advertising salesman, Jon’s career path was inevitable.
Jon has spent the last 25 years in the industry proper. A Hand and Machine Compositor by trade in 1993 he joined the daily national broadsheet paper The Canberra Times as a typesetter. By 1996 Jon’s role included the coordination of new commercial clients following the installation of a new press the Geoman Doublewith.
Instrumental in the installation of CTP technology in 2000. In 2004 he was project lead on the installation of the Atex Cybergraphics Publishing system which finally linked advertising, editorial, finance and production onto one system, both projects were firsts for an Australian daily.
Jon was appointed Manager of Fairfax Media Print & Logistics Canberra in 2013, since then the site has completed a number of upgrades including the addition of Ultra Violet technology, upgraded publishing systems and last year the addition of a Super Panorama Gluing unit. All part of Fairfax’s transition of print.
Jon is a member of The NewsMediaWorks Environment Advisory Group and Chair of The Fairfax Foundation.
