    Paloma Almoguera is a Spanish reporter with over 10 years of international experience. She has been correspondent of EFE (Spanish News Agency) in East Africa (Kenya), Europe (Switzerland) and China, where she lived over the past five years. She has recently moved to Singapore and currently freelances for Spanish newspaper "El País", reporting on Southeast Asia current affairs.

    Ghinwa (Arabic for song), earned $50,000 participating in the Arab Startup Competition, the first and only competition it has taken part in.

    The app allows everyone who likes Karaoke to further explore their talents and share their performances on social media. Arabic music lovers can vocalize their favorite songs that will be licensed from copyright owners. "Every song can be followed, shared, saved, and promoted across different social media platforms.”

He was also responsible and project leader for Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Foreign Intra-Entrepreneurship. He has over 28 years of professional experience in business and finance, over 14 years of professional experience in media in the areas of planning, business, finance, strategy, process of publishing and multimedia processing area and has more than eight years dedicated to the comprehensive strategic analysis of the media industry.

  • Editor Digital Content Hub BBC World Service, United Kingdom

    Hernando Alvarez is a journalist with over twenty years of experience. Currently Editor of the Global Content Hub of the BBC, he is at the frontline of digital innovation in the World Service. He started his career in 1992 as a reporter in his native Colombia and after working on national newspapers and press agencies, he joined the BBC World Service in 2000. He worked as a radio producer and correspondent and covered the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. In 2006, he was appointed editor of BBC Mundo and in 2012 became the regional editor of the Americas. This region is seen by senior management as the digital hot house of the BBC World Service, and an example of editorial innovation.

    Alejandro Alvarez is 40 years old. He is a lawyer and holds a Master in Business Administration (MBA). 

    He is currently the CEO of RPA Media Place, a company engaged in commercializing the digital media of Argentina's 5 most important publishers (Grupo Clarín, La Nación, Infobae, Perfil, and Telefé) under the programmatic purchase model.

    RPA Media Place was founded in 2015 and is the first Premium Programmatic company in the region, concentrating more than 90% of the reach of unique browsers in Argentina according to ComScore, throught the 57 news and entertainment websites of its members. Mr. Alvarez has been responsible for this company from the start.

    Previously, he spent more than 20 years working in the advertising industry, having worked for companies such as Canal 13, CIE Rock & Pop, Pramer and LA NACION. For the past 5 years, he was Google’s Commercial Director.

    During 2013 and 2014, he held the position of Vice-president of the Argentine Chamber of E-Commerce (CACE - 

    Among his most important accomplishments, Mr. Alvarez did an excellent job with the development of the retail business ─ while working in Google, he made it grow tenfold during his last three years there.

    Rosental Calmon Alves is a professor of journalism at the University of Texas at Austin, where he holds the Knight Chair in Journalism and the UNESCO Chair in Communication and is also the founder and director of the Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas. Created in 2002, the center has benefited thousands of journalists around the world with training programs. In Latin America and the Caribbean, the center has helped journalists to create a new generation of organizations dedicated to elevating the professional and ethical standards of journalism in their countries. In 2016 was awarded with the Maria Moors Cabot Prize.

    Alessandro Alvim has been graphic editor at O Globo (Rio de Janeiro - Brazil) since 1997. He graduated in Engraving from the School of Fine Arts at Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. His interest in infograhics began in his childhood reading encyclopedias and history books about World War II. He was 19 years old when he started working in the press, in 1991. In the 20th Malofiej, his name was among the 25 infographists most voted in the election for the best graphic artist of the past twenty years. His work was recognized at the Malofiej, Society for News Design (SND), Inter American Press Association, ÑH awards and Esso Prize, the most traditional press award in Brazil. Nowadays, he works producing digital narratives.

    Marcos Amadeo is Director, Disney Interactive for the The Walt Disney Company Latin America in charge of development and operations of all interactive vertical platforms, whether it is games, apps or websites. His responsability includes the managment of teams, tools and proceess to enable platforms that expand the reach of Disney stories and create unforgettable interactive moments. 

    He has been a part of Disney since 2009 but his experience expands over 20 years as an entrepreneur, producer, and a journalist. He holds a BA from Universidad Austral and Masters Degree in Entertainment and Technology from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, USA.

    Dina Amin is head of Publisher Partnerships, Middle East and Africa for Google. She is responsible for developing publisher relationships in the region through strategic planning, new business growth, and digital channel development, she has over 13 years of experience in product development, marketing and sales. Dina joined Google in January 2015, and in her current role works with the largest clients in the region to help them monetize their display, video & mobile inventory through programmatic advertising.

    Dina’s background is in FinTech. Before moving to Google, she previously held senior positions at Barclays, including Vice President & CMO of Retail Banking and Head of Digital Banking in the Middle East and Africa. Her previous roles focused on improving the user experience via integrated digital marketing and channel management. She received an undergraduate degree in Computer Science from the University of Manchester before being awarded a scholarship to read for an MBA from London Business School.

He served as managing partner & executive producer at Alkarma Edutainment providing content development, production, post production, outreach a well as product licensing through a master licensing agreement with Sesame Workshop. Tarek also founded the first creative hotshop in the MENA region with a core competency in video animation and brand character development.

    Having diverse experience in founding, monetizing, and managing businesses across Print, TV, and Digital Media, Tarek has served as an advisor, strategist and has successfully executed M&A's with some of the leading media platforms across the Arab world.

    With a passion in creating and nurturing a vibrant ecosystem for entrepreneurship, Tarek is as a mentor, advisor, speaker & judge in numerous events and networks including Riseup Summit, Startup Weekend, Turn8 Accelerator, Flat6Labs, Arabnet and the AUC School of Business Entrepreneurship and Innovation Program amongst others, and continues to mentor startups and entrepreneurs from various parts of the world.

    Currently, Tarek is Group Head of Digital in Adline Media Network one of the biggest independent media-marketing networks with strong local operations in all major Arab markets, were he established the Digital Business for the Group.

    Sarwar Amin. At present serving as Deputy GM at Transcraft Ltd., Dhaka, Bangladesh, country’s largest newspaper printing house. Transcraft prints the Daily Prothom Alo (vernacular), The Daily Star (English language) newspapers, own by Transcom Group, a conglomerate of the country. Both the Dailies are number one in circulation and objectiveness in their respective field. 

    After completing graduation and a Diploma in Printing Technology locally, he has studied a special Diploma Program in printing technology at GMDC-SDU, Netherlands under DenHaag Varsity in 1993 having a Dutch Govt. Fellowship. Also participated in a post-graduate program at London College of Printing, South London in 1994.

    Mr. Amin had the opportunity to take part in on-the-job training programs in Japan, Singapore, Korea, China etc. on various purposes of newspaper printing system to boost his knowledge and experience. He is a 5 times participator in Drupa Print Fair in Düsseldorf, Germany.

    Chei Amlani is head of digital publishing at the Telegraph Media Group where he leads a team that delivers editorial development and innovation across platforms, building better tools and defining best practice for the newsroom. He has worked in the editorial digital team at the Telegraph for over a decade, driving integration between online and print, delivering engaging products and ensuring complete editorial coverage of major events, first as digital sports editor and more recently as digital Olympics editor, heading the Telegraph's award-winning cross-platform coverage of the London 2012 Games.

    Isabel Amorim is currently Director of Products, Digital and Editorial Strategy for all brands of Editora Abril. Previously, she launched the digital version of the newspaper El Pais in Brazil, accumulating responsibility in the area of copyright for the Prisa Group.

    From 2001 to 2013 she directed The New York Times Syndicate in Latin America, Mexico and the Caribbean.

    Isabel holds a bachelor's degree in business administration, a post-graduate degree in communication from the School of Communication and Arts at the University of SP, has an MBA from Business School SP and Rothman School in Toronto, and a postgraduate degree from IE Madrid in Global Management. 

    In June 2016 Isabel was Fellow of the course taught by Francis Fukuyama and Roger Leeds for Stanford LAD and Insper in Brazil. Today she participates in the LAD group of Stanford.

    Isabel is a member of the LATAM advisory committee of WAN-IFRA, part of the board of INMA-International News Marketing Association, and a member of the jury of the journalistic award offered by the Inter-American Press Association since 2011.

    Uma is also a film critic with At the Movies (now Malaysia's most downloaded movie podcast) and the co-host of BFM89.9's drive time radio show, The Evening Edition.   And when he's not doing all of that, Uma also runs The Cooler Lumpur Festival, KL's yearly gathering of literary minds and thought leaders and Asia’s first and only festival of ideas.

    Mr. Mahfuz Anam is the Editor–Publisher of The Daily Star, the highest selling English newspaper in Bangladesh commanding 75 percent of the English newspaper market. During his Editorship (1993 - till date), The Daily Star has become the most respected and trusted English language newspaper of the country. He pursued a vigorous editorial policy of strengthening democracy, freedom of expression, freedom of media and fundamental rights. His occasional column "Commentary" has gained tremendous popularity among readers.

    In 1998, Mr. Anam was made the Publisher and CEO (Chief Executive Officer) of Mediaworld Limited, the owning company of the paper.
    Before co-founding The Daily Star in July 1991, he worked for 14 years with UNESCO from 1977 to December 1990 in various public affairs and media capacities in Paris, New York and Bangkok. His last position with UNESCO was in Thailand, Bangkok as “Regional Media & Public Affairs Representative” for Asia and the Pacific, covering 31 countries from which he resigned in December 1990, returned to Bangladesh, and started this paper.

    Mr. Anam holds B. A. Honours and a Masters Degree in Economics from Dhaka University. During his student life, he was the winner of All Pakistan Debating Championship for 3 consecutive years, winning championship in Karachi, Dhaka and Lahore in 1967, 1968 and 1969 respectively.

    He started his journalism career in March 1972 and worked as Staff Correspondent of Bangladesh Observer and Assistant Editor of Bangladesh Times before starting his overseas career in 1977. He was awarded Jefferson Fellowship in Journalism in 1976 by the Honolulu based East - West Center. He was given the “Courageous Journalism” Award, 2016, by the East-West Centre, Honolulu, Hawaii, USA.
    He is the founding President of Newspapers Owners Association of Bangladesh (NOAB). He is presently Secretary General of the Editors’ Council of Bangladesh.

    Azrul Ananda, the President of PT Jawa Pos Group, Indonesia’s leading newspaper group which includes over 180 publications and 20 local TV channels spread all over the country. Ananda started at Jawa Pos in 2000 when he created the paper’s daily youth section Deteksi. He then moved from desk to desk, occupying responsibilities at the City section, entertainment section and Front page desk while regularly contributing to the paper with his sports reporting and feature stories. After occupying the position of Managing Editor, Ananda became Chief Editor in 2005. He moved from editorial to management responsibilities in 2007 when he was appointed Vice Director of Sales and Distribution. He was Vice Director of Advertising and Chief Operating Officer before reaching his present position.

    Vasantha Angamuthu has 30 years experience in media and communications and is the Chief Strategy Officer at Independent Media South Africa. Her role includes organisational development, product development across print, digital and onground and supporting the leadership team in the development of audience, product and revenue strategies. She also launched and heads up Studio Independent, a branded content agency within Independent Media.

    She started her professional life as a political journalist and covered South Africa's transition to democracy including the country's first democratic elections; the constitution-writing process and President Nelson Mandela's time in office.   She left journalism to head the communications unit of the City of Durban, elevating the unit from a PR and media buying unit to a strategic communications unit with a Paid, Owned and Earned (PEO) developmental marketing strategy. In her five years at HT Media, she launched or redesigned a number of print products, drove the implementation of community and niche print products and conceptualised and launched a number of events.

    Darren Ansell

    Darren Ansell has been the Space and Aerospace Engineering Lead in the School of Computing, Engineering and Physical Sciences, University of Central Lancashire since September 2012. At UCLAN Darren is leading a number of collaborative research projects with industry partners, including the 'GAMMA' Growing Autonomous Mission Management Applications programme, developing autonomous, intelligent software for the aerospace and nuclear industries.

    His research interests include autonomous and intelligent systems and he previously worked in industry at BAE Systems in research management and research and development roles, specialising in Mission Systems and Autonomy. At BAE Systems he was the Engineering lead for the ASTRAEA programme which developed UAV technology to support the integration of unmanned platforms into UK airspace, where he led the development of 'Sense and Avoid' collision avoidance technology, autonomy and decision making software and image processing research.

    Scott D. Anthony is the Managing Partner of Innosight. Based in the firm’s Singapore offices since 2010, he has led Innosight’s expansion into the Asia-Pacific region as well as its venture capital activities (Innosight Ventures).

    In his decade with Innosight, Scott has advised senior leaders in companies such as Procter & Gamble, Johnson & Johnson, Singtel, Kraft, General Electric, LG, the Ayala Group, and Cisco Systems on topics of growth and innovation. He has extensive experience in emerging markets, particularly in India, China, and the Philippines.
    Scott is one of Harvard Business Review’s most prolific contributors and is the coauthor of the book Dual Transformation (Spring 2017). He was the co-author of the HBR  article “Build an Innovation Engine in 90 Days” as well as dozens of digital articles for the magazine.

    Scott’s previous books are The First Mile: A Launch Manual for Getting Great Ideas Into the Market. Seeing What’s Next: Using the Theories of Innovation to Predict Industry Change (with Innosight co-founder and Harvard Professor Clayton Christensen); The Innovator’s Guide to Growth: Putting Disruptive Innovation to Work; The Silver Lining: An Innovation Playbook for Uncertain Times; The Little Black Book of Innovation: How It Works, How to Do It; and Building a Growth Factory.
