  • National Director - Content & Social Media at GroupM

    Karthik Nagarajan

    Karthik Nagarajan leads the content and social media practice at GroupM. In this role, he helps brands create and execute purposeful content strategies across multiple media platforms, guided by insights and data. He is also creating a sustainable ecosystem where content owners, agencies and brands can thrive together. 

    Prior to this, Karthik was leading The Nielsen Company’s online division in India, which he helped set up. He also led NM Incite, the joint venture between Nielsen and McKinsey for social media consulting, in India. 

    Karthik started his career in Internet cryptography in India and later took on leadership roles in the RFID market in the United States. When he is not on his day job, he is a screenwriter and an independent filmmaker for his production outfit ‘Filter Coffee Talkies’, which is into short, feature and documentary films.

    Karthik also is a visiting faculty in institutions like MICA and IIM A.

    Vinita Dawra Nangia is an Associate Editor, Author and Columnist with The Times of India. She is also the Director of Write India, the world’s biggest movement for crowd-sourced writing in association with established authors. With over two decades of experience in Lifestyle & Features Journalism, Vinita specialises in society, relationships and life commentary. Vinita launched Page 3 and has also been a pioneering fashion journalist and a regular on talk circuits. She writes a weekly column in The Times of India, O-zone, on Contemporary Living & Relationships. She has authored three books – ‘It's Your Life -- Reflections on Contemporary Living & Relationships’, ‘Love is Always Right & Other Musings’ and a coffee table book on fashion – ‘Fashion Fair -The Journey of 13 Contemporary Designers’. Vinita conceptualised and launched Write India, the country's biggest and first-ever platform for crowd-sourcing writing.

  • Outgoing CEO, Gizmodo Media Group, USA

    Raju Narisetti is CEO of the Gizmodo Media Group.

    He was until October 2016 Senior Vice President, Strategy, for News Corp where he was primarily involved in new ventures and acquisitions.

    Prior to News Corp, Mr. Narisetti served as a Deputy Managing Editor of The Wall Street Journal and Managing Editor of The Wall Street Journal Digital Network. In this role, he headed editorial teams and content strategy for WSJ.com, MarketWatch.com, WSJ Live video platforms, and Wall Street Journal and MarketWatch Radio Networks.

    Mr. Narisetti also served as Managing Editor of Washington Post Co. 2009-2011, overseeing digital content, news products and new businesses, as well as its editing, design, photo, video, engagement and social media teams. Teams he oversaw won three Pulitzer Prizes during his tenure.

    Prior to joining the Post, Mr. Narisetti served as Founder/Editor of India's Mint newspaper, which is now India's second-largest business newspaper, by circulation.

    At Present he is with WAN-IFRA and he is a project manager for International color quality competition and also responsible for activities of Research and Material Testing Center (RMTC) owned by WAN-IFRA. RMTC offers newsprint and news ink testing, print quality evaluation, Press simulator training, ISO 12647-3 certification.

    After graduating as a telecom engineer, Navarotto started his work career in Norway in 1997 as a software consultant for Ericsson. He then moved back to Italy in 2000 in order to startup the italian branch of the consultancy company he was working for at that time. From 2002 to 2006 he has worked for the DADA internet group as product manager of the b2b mobile services area. Finally in 2006 he entered the Poligrafici Group as business development manager of their web company Monrif Net and since 2009 he has assumed the role of COO for the online operations of the group.

    Anita Nayyar

    Anita Nayyar is a veteran of Indian media being an integral part of its growth. As CEO she took on the mandate to expand the Havas Media Group footprint in these lucrative emerging markets in 2006. Under her leadership Havas Media Group in India has grown exponentially. It has expanded its offerings as an integrated communications group for traditional, digital, mobile, performance marketing, out-of-home and sports. The agency has grown 10 times in 8 years. She started and went on to lead leading agencies in India including Saatchi & Saatchi, Ogilvy & Mather, Initiative Media, MediaCom and Starcom Worldwide. 

    Anita was voted the 2nd most influential media person in India by The Brand Equity Survey in 2006 and has always been in the top list of the most influential media personalities ever since. 

  • Founder & Editor-In-Chief, DataLEADS / CIJ, India

    Syed Nazakat is an award-winning journalist, media entrepreneur, founder and Editor-In-Chief of DataLEADS, which is a data-driven Indian initiative aimed to create new platforms of data research and storytelling. Syed Nazakat leads DataLEADS in New Delhi, as well as overseeing its outreach across Asia with different partners including with Asia News Network (Thailand), a network of 22 leading Asian daily newspapers in 20 Asian countries, with a combined circulation of 14 million and a readership of more than 50 million.

    He is also founder of the Centre for Investigative Journalism, a non-profit organization he founded to promote the cause of watchdog journalism in India. He has worked in senior positions at different media organisations and has over 18 years of experience as broadcast, print and online journalist. He has reported on wars, armed conflicts, human rights issues & security and developmental issues from more than 30 countries and has covered the war in Afghanistan, political turmoil in Nepal, developmental issues in Laos and Cambodia, unrest in Thailand, the conflict in India’s Kashmir region, the civil war in South Sudan, defence industry in Germany and Australia, unrest in Myanmar and political instability in Bangladesh. He was the first Indian journalist to report from an Al-Qaeda rehabilitation camp in Saudi Arabia and in 2013 he was given unprecedented access by the USA to the military detention facility in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba to report about prison abuse cases.

    Nazakat has been the recipient of several national and international journalism awards he has been judge for the Global Shining Light Award, a unique global award which honors investigative journalism in a developing or transitioning country.

    Syed Nazakat is also President of Society of Asian Journalists (SAJ), an independent organisation of 400+ editors and journalists in 27+ Asian countries. He is member of the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (Washington) and represents Asia Pacific Region at Global Investigative Journalism Network, leading the GIJN’s mandate and media activities across Asia which include facilitating Asian Investigative Journalism Conference, recommending and short-listing panellists, identifying potential sponsors and participants and conducting training sessions.

    He holds B.Sc degree from India and Master’s degree in Journalism and Mass communication from the Ateneo de Manila University, Philippines.

  • Executive Director, Plataforma de Media Privados, Portugal

    Luís Nazaré was appointed as the Executive Director of Plataforma de Media Privados (PMP) on February 2015. PMP brings together the five private media groups (Cofina, Global Media, Impresa, Media Capital and Renascença) in Portugal and aims to “coordinate strategic issues for the media sector in the country”. Luis oversees the strategy and interests of these companies across the Media sector in Portugal and at a European level.

    He teaches Strategic Management and Marketing at ISEG (Lisbon’s School of Economics and Management).

    Nazaré is the former Partner of Gestíssimo Consulting and the former president of CTT and Anacom. Additionally he has been the non-executive President of Airplus TV Portugal and served in several Boards as Chairman, like the Board of Directors of Correios de Portugal or the Board of Directors of ICP-ANACOM (National Communications Regulator). From 2002 to 2005 was a Member of the Advisory Board Telecom in Portugal and earlier in his career worked as an Advisor to the Prime Minister for Industry, Trade and Tourism.

  • Executive Vice President, Amedia AS, Norway

    Pål Nedregotten is Executive Vice President in charge of Business development, Data/insight and Innovation at Amedia, which is with its 62 newspapers Norway’s largest local media publisher. He’s previously held various leading positions at the company at the crossroads between technology, product development and journalism.   At Amedia, he has for the last three years been central in developing and rolling out the company’s centralised login solution, digital subscription strategy and data strategy, which he currently spearheads.    A veteran in the Norwegian online journalism field, he’s been working in the intersection between online development and journalism since 1994.  He was instrumental in spearheading some of the earliest examples of Norwegian online publications, experimenting with, among other things, live online chats/interviews between editors, panellists and interviewees as early as 1996 - as well as working closely with the editorial interfaces of home-grown publishing systems since 1997.   
  • Director, Journalism Leaders Programme | Co-convenor: Digital Editors Network, UK

    Dr François Nel and Dr Coral Millburn-Curtis lead the Innovation Research Group which is a partnership between applied researchers from Green Templeton College at the University of Oxford and the University of Central Lancashire, where François is the founding director of the pioneering Journalism Leaders Programme. He has worked with WAN-IFRA since 2009 to research the priorities of news executives worldwide and is the editor of the new World News Media Outlook report scheduled for publication in Spring 2017. François is the first academic to become an executive member of the World Editors Forum and works to support entrepreneurial individuals and forward-thinking organisations worldwide, including News UK, Trinity Mirror, Johnston Press, CN Group and Times Media Ltd (South Africa).

    Lindsay Nelson is the Global Head of Brand Strategy for Vox Media, leading strategy and business operations across advertising, marketing, Vox Creative (the branded content and native advertising group), research and events. Lindsay and her team work side-by-side with Vox Media editorial, sales, and product to deliver data-informed, technology-driven and creatively-inspired brand advertising solutions for Vox Media's eight award-winning properties -- SB Nation, The Verge, Re/code, Curbed, Eater, Racked, Polygon and Vox.com. A resident of New York, in 2015 Lindsay was named to Advertising Age’s “Women to Watch” list and Business Insider’s “Most Powerful Women in Mobile Advertising.”

    Steven is a member of NZZ-Mediengruppe’s executive management board since February 2014 and managing director of the business unit NZZ Medien since January 2015. He leads the business along with the editor-in-chief of the «Neue Zürcher Zeitung» Eric Gujer. Previously, he was an associate partner in the Zurich office of McKinsey & Company and member of the leadership of the firm’s European media practice. He has extensive experience in advising media, sports and telecommunications companies. Steven studied business administration (marketing, finance, computer science) at the University of Bayreuth and earned his doctorate in innovation management at the University of Aachen in 2008. Steven is married and is father to three children.

    Lisa-Maria has worked in various fields in the (digital) communications sector including radio & broadcast news journalism (ARD), communication consulting (Allianz Singapore) and Marketing (Coca-Cola, BBDO). She has conducted research at SDA Bocconi, Milan, the National University of Singapore and Ludwig-Maximilians-University, Munich.

    Abba is an independent consultant, with clients like YouTube where she helps creators make successful brand partnerships and Google, where she mentors early stage start ups in brand and marketing strategy and investor pitches. Prior to that she was Marketing Director at Lumen Research, Director of Advertising Strategy at News UK, and a Managing partner at Media agency Universal McCann.

  • Research Associate, Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism, UK

    Nic Newman is Research Associate at the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism where he  writes on the future of digital media. He is lead author of the Digital News Report the world's biggest and most authoritative survey of changing news consumption and was joint author of a recent report on the Future of Online Video.

    Nic was a founding member of the BBC News Website, leading international coverage as World Editor (1997-2001). As Head of Product Development and then Future Media Controller for BBC News (2001-10), he helped introduce innovations such as blogs, podcasting and on-demand video. He works on digital, product and engagement strategies for a wide range of media companies across Europe. 

     

  • Chief Revenue Officer, GateHouse Media, USA

    Peter Newton is chief revenue officer of GateHouse Media, in addition to his current role as CEO of Propel Business Services, Inc. Newton joined GateHouse Media in 2012 to lead Propel Marketing, the Company’s digital marketing services agency. In 2015, Newton was promoted to CEO of Propel Business Services, which includes Propel Marketing; BestRide, the Company’s national automotive platform; AdUs, the Company’s digital agency in Las Vegas; and, a recent addition, Propel Business Capital, a small business lending venture. Propel Business Services continues to actively evaluate other investment opportunities.

    Prior to GateHouse Media, Newton’s background included significant leadership experience in both traditional media and the digital space, with a particular focus on SMB products and services. Newton served as VP of Sales at The Boston Globe, President of its niche employment business, BostonWorks; and SVP and GM of Monster’s small and medium business segment.

     A practitioner of fifteen years in audio/visual media and journalism, his knowledge and experience expanded into digital consumer marketing and social media through the diverse roles he has held. Currently, Jonathan leads a team of young and dynamic multimedia video producers as the Editor of SPH Razor. His team is responsible for producing a wide variety of online videos, ranging from lifestyle to commercial content, distributed across the SPH Video Network and social media.

    Fai-keung Ng is a digital marketing and analytics leader with over 14 years of global work experience in the US, Singapore, Hong Kong and Germany. He’s joined AT Internet since 2014, where he manages and executes the Southeast Asia business plan with full responsibilities of Sales, Consulting, Marketing, Operations, HR, Legal, etc. for the region. At the global level, Fai is one of the key members of the product committee driving AT Internet’s product development. Before joining AT Internet, he worked with Yahoo for 8+ years and was one of the early practitioners of performance marketing, having launched the sponsored search solution for Yahoo’s international markets in EMEA and APAC from 2005-2008. After moving to Singapore, his responsibilities spread across all facets of Yahoo’s business in Southeast Asia.

    Joe Nguyen is Senior Vice President, Asia Pacific at comScore, a leading cross-platform measurement company that measures audiences, brands and consumer behaviour everywhere.

    With more than 20 years in the online analytics and media industries in the Asia Pacific region, Joe has experience in panel-based audience measurement as well as advanced data analytics on the user and vendor sides. He actively contributes to key digital, media and technology conferences and publications across the region. In addition, he is the co-founder of iamWednesday Singapore, and is currently on the Interactive Advertising Bureau Singapore leadership council and Mobile Marketing Association Asia Pacific board of directors.

    Prior to comScore, Joe was the Southeast Asia regional manager for Omniture where he successfully delivered its product suites across diverse industries. He previously served as the director of global e-commerce at Millennium & Copthorne Hotels where he grew global online sales by 50 percent.

    Joe holds a BSE degree in Mechanical Engineering from Princeton University. He was born in Vietnam and emigrated to the United States after spending a year in a Malaysian refugee camp.

    Lindsay holds a BSc (Hons) in Mathematics with Economics (1st Class) from the University of Southampton. She is proficient in multiple coding languages including R and SQL.

    Trine Nielsen, Director of Education and Research at the Danish School of Media and Journalism. Trine has 20 years of experience from the Danish Media Industry with a specialization in conducting major change processes, from focus on the influence of technology to the actually impact on the strategic, tactical and operational level. In addition, Trine has written several books on Innovation and Business development.

    Dr Rasmus Kleis Nielsen is Director of Research at the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism and serves as Editor in Chief of the International Journal of Press/Politics.

    His work focuses on changes in the news media, on political communication, and the role of digital technologies in both. He has done extensive research on journalism, American politics, and various forms of activism, and a significant amount of comparative work in Western Europe and beyond.

  • Senior Editor-in-Chief, Helsingin Sanomat, Finland

    Kaius Niemi began his journalistic career as a television and radio reporter at the Finnish Broadcasting Company YLE in the 1990s. Later he worked as a reporter at the television channel Nelonen (Channel Four Finland). In 1998 Niemi moved to Helsingin Sanomat where he was a staff writer at the Foreign Desk for six years. In 2005 Niemi became the City Editor of the Helsingin Sanomat City and Metropolitan News Desk. Two years later he was appointed Managing Editor of the newspaper. Since 2010 Kaius Niemi has worked as Editor-in-Chief of Ilta-Sanomat where his main focus is the digital content and its development. Kaius Niemi was appointed Senior Editor-in-Chief of Helsingin Sanomat September 2013.
