    Gautam Mishra is the CEO of inkl, a marketplace for premium news. inkl’s goal is to grow online payments for news just as similar marketplaces have done in other markets. inkl also provides an enterprise service for publishers who want to charge their readers. Most publishers today pursue a one-size-fits-all pricing model. inkl’s solution uniquely allow publishers to deploy flexible pricing models for different segments so that they can maximise the payment potential of each reader. Prior to starting inkl Gautam set up and ran online subscriptions for the Sydney Morning Herald and The Age. Before that he worked as a management consultant in Sydney and New York. He has an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

    Andy, Mitchell

    Andy Mitchell is Director of Global News Partnerships for Facebook based in the NY office. He joined Facebook in October 2010. In his role, Mitchell oversees the news and publishing vertical for Facebook globally.  Currently Mitchell’s working on Facebook’s evolving partnerships with article and video publishers with a focus on migrating content to Facebook with the business model to support it.

    Since joining Facebook, Mitchell’s role has included working on FB Platform, specifically social plugins (Like, Comments, Share) and more traditional partnerships with media organizations including broadcast Partnerships with NBC for the London Olympics Games; CNN for a cross platform global partnership for the US general election; and a debate with NBC News featuring the Republican nominees in New Hampshire.

    In addition to broadcast Partnerships, Mitchell’s role is to work with publishers to leverage the Facebook Platform and News Feed to maximize engagement, referrals and distribution. This includes traditional companies like CNN, NBC News and The New York Times as well as social publishers including Buzzfeed, Vice and The Huffington Post. Immediately prior to joining Facebook, Mitchell served as Vice President of Business Development for The Daily Beast. He was responsible for marketing and strategic communications, mobile, SEO, social media strategy, content distribution partnerships.  

    Mitchell had a 15-year tenure at CNN Worldwide in a variety of roles. His last position was vice president of digital marketing and development and a key member of the CNN Digital management team. Based in New York, Mitchell was directly responsible for trade and consumer marketing of CNN’s digital assets, including the No. 1 news and information site, CNN.com, and the company’s growth into mobile and other digital platforms. Additionally, Mitchell was responsible for developing partnerships to support multi-platform content distribution across CNN’s networks.

    Amit is an IIM Lucknow alumnus with 10 years of cross functional experience across finance, strategy, marketing and operations. Well versed with the domestic as well as international media ecosystem, he has led and successfully executed numerous projects across media verticals – Digital, Radio, Broadcasting, Distribution etc. He was a core member of the Investment/Strategy team of Malaysian Media Conglomerate, Astro All Asia Networks and also served as the Head of Product/ Marketing for the digital business of Dainik Bhaskar group in the past. An ardent follower of the rapidly changing digital world, his core expertise lies in using technology to address large fundamental problems existing in the current environment.

    Sam Mkokeli, an award-winning journalist and columnist, chairs the South African National Editors’ Forum’s media freedom sub-committee. He has been a journalist for almost two decades and has worked for South Africa’s leading newspaper brands, including Business Day and Sunday Times, where he held editorial executive roles. Those include the roles of News Editor/Assistant Editor and later Political Editor at Business Day – South Africa’s leading financial daily, and Cape Town Bureau Chief for the Sunday Times. He is now a specialist politics journalist for Bloomberg News, based in Johannesburg and covers mainly government affairs, political power and public policy.

    Koketso Moeti Founder Amandla.mobi

    Koketso Moeti has a long background in civic activism and has over the years worked at the intersection of governance, communication and citizen action. She currently serves as the founding executive director of amandla.mobi, a community of over 220,000 people working to turn every cellphone into a democracy-building tool to ensure that those most affected by injustice- low income Black women in particular- can take collective action on issues affecting our lives. In 2018 she was announced as an inaugural Obama Foundation fellow and the Waislitz Global Citizen award winner. This comes after being a 2017 Aspen Institute New Voices fellow. She is also the Deputy Chairperson of the SOS Coalition, a coalition of South African organisations committed to and campaigning for public broadcasting in the public interest. 

    When not working, Moeti can be found writing and has been published by a wide range of local and international media.

    Magdoom Mohamed joined WAN-IFRA as Business Development Manager, and grew up through several positions to Managing Director in April 2008.  He is responsible for WAN-IFRA’s business in South Asia. He also guided WAN-IFRA’s entry into the Middle East during a brief stint in 2008.

    Before joining WAN-IFRA, he was with The Times of India group, managing the local brand of the group in Chennai.

    An MBA from Madras University, Magdoom did a Senior Management Programme at Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, India’s premier B-School. He followed it up with a Media Leadership Programme at Indian School of Business, Hyderabad in 2010.

  • ICFJ Knight International Journalism Fellow, Code for Tanzania

    Omar Mohammed is an ICFJ Knight International Journalism Fellow leading the launch of Code for Tanzania, which promotes data journalism and civic innovation as a means to strengthening journalistic storytelling and audience engagement.

    Mohammed is an experienced data journalist and digital strategist. ​In 2015, he helped launch Quartz Africa and worked as the platform's East Africa reporter based in Tanzania’s commercial capital, Dar es Salaam. Prior to joining Quartz, he spent 2014-2015 as a Hubert H. Humphrey Fulbright Fellow at Arizona State University's Walter Cronkite School of Journalism, where he researched sustainable financial models for doing digital business journalism. He currently helps to cover financial news for Bloomberg in East Africa's second largest economy.

    He previously served as a senior producer for the BBC Swahili Service’s weekly radio news magazine show, “Haba na Haba” (Little by Little) and co-created and hosted a news review show @Mgahawa on East Africa Television. His writing has appeared in The Arizona Republic, Global Voices, The East African, among others

    Jason Mojica

    Jason Mojica has been contributing to Vice since 2007. Before joining the company full time in 2011, he worked for Al Jazeera English as a producer on the network's weekly media analysis program,The Listening Post, and as a field producer for Josh Rushing's series, On War. Since joining Vice he has produced documentaries for the web and for the company's Emmy-nominated HBO series in more than 30 countries including Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Egypt, Libya, El Salvador, the Philippines, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Jason was recently named Editor-in-Chief of Vice News. Jason holds a B.A. in Political Communication from George Washington University.

    Matt Monahan leads the product, sales and implementation teams for Arc Publishing, The Washington Post's burgeoning software-as-a-service CMS business. Over the past two years, Monahan has overseen the growth of Arc from a small experiment with university newspapers to an enterprise-scale SaaS business with some of the world's largest publishers as its clients. He has lead the implementation of Arc for major clients such as tronc, publisher of legacy brands like the Los Angeles Times and Chicago Tribune, Canada’s Globe and Mail, and South America’s digital powerhouse Infobae. Monahan also oversees strategy and development for the more than 15 newsroom products that comprise Arc.

    Prior to his work with Arc Publishing, Monahan held a variety of product positions at The Post, including managing The Post's publishing systems internally, and serving as the product manager for video at The Post and The Post's various commercial products. Monahan began his career at Boston Scientific.

    He attended Boston University and lives in Washington, D.C.

    Pedro Monteiro

    Pedro Monteiro is a Multimedia Coordinator at Expresso newspaper. With a professional background in design, nowadays Pedro works' mainly on the planning, producing and publishing of digital narratives on the newspaper's different digital platforms. Pedro is also involved on the launching of new digital projects on Expresso. Alongside his work on Impresa, Pedro is also a consultant for Innovation Media Consuting for digital journalism. Pedro is on the finnishing stage of his masters degree about digital storytelling on the Lisbon University.

    Robb Montgomery is a journalism professor, consultant and serial entrepreneur based in Berlin, Germany. He is the author of two books on visual storytelling and the founder of several businesses including Visual Editors, Montgomery Multimedia and the Smart Film School.

    Montgomery is a former visual editor for the Chicago Tribune and Chicago Sun-Times. He redesigned the San Francisco Examiner in 2005 and has led innovation projects throughout his career.

    Montgomery teaches Mobile Journalism and Design Thinking at several European universities and is the author of “A Field Guide for Mobile Journalism” (iTunes) and “Smartphone Filmmaking” (Taylor & Francis).

    He has two best-seller courses on Udemy (Smartphone Filmmaking and Mobile Journalism) and founded the Smart Film School in 2015 to provide certificate training resources for schools and organizations.

She currently works as the Executive Producer at AJ+ Español, and has been Associate Producer at Werner Herzog, Interactive Producer at the Associated Press, and Head of Video at El País America (where she managed to start their new digital video operation).

    Visual thinker and journalist. Currently working with digital narratives and news innovation at the heart of the new generation of storytellers. Originally a documentary filmmaker, she now works with digital media, leads cross format teams, creates interactive storytelling, develops social media strategies and cares for great content. 

    During the latest Mexican Presidential elections period, she led all the visuals at Verificado 2018: a fact checking, collaborative journalism initiative to fight fake news and misinformation.

    She holds a Master degree at the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism with a focus in Documentary Filmmaking and Digital Media. She has worked in several countries like Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, the United States, India, Cameroon, Ecuador, and Colombia.

    He began his professional career in print media, in outlets such as the El Economista newspaper , Diario Reporte Indigo and Imagen de Zacatecas newspaper. He was also an international consultant for HOLA Puerto Rico magazine, La Estrella newspaper in Panama, among others.

    He currently works in the area of ​​IT Technologies Research in Grupo Expansión, where he is involved in the creation and implementation of editorial processes in the newsrooms. His training and technological vision has allowed him to develop solutions and integral applications that facilitate workflows as well as the management of digital content.

    Chris Moran

    Chris Moran is the Guardian's Audience Editor, charged with finding the widest audience possible for all the Guardian's journalism. Based in London, he's at the heart of day-to-day editorial decisions, helping editors understand what's breaking across the internet, how Guardian journalism is read and how best to promote it. He is the lead editorial strategist on Ophan, the Guardian's class-leading bespoke realtime analytics tool which began as a hack day project and is now used by 1,000 staff a month. He's a passionate advocate of democratising data: getting analytics in front of journalists as a way of helping us all understand our new medium.

    Daniel Moreno is the Editor-in-Chief and founder of Animal Político, an on-line newspaper launched in November 2010.

    Since 1989 Daniel has been a reporter in different news media groups such as Unomásuno, El Economista, and El Financiero, or Reforma (in which he participated in its foundation and worked as  a Political Information Coordinator between 1993 and 2000)

    In 2001, he was the publisher of Cambio magazine, when this was lead by Gabriel García Márquez, and later he worked as deputy editor of the newspaper El Universal.
    He was deputy general director of Milenio Diario and editorial director of Excelsior, responsible for the graphic and editorial redesign of the newspaper.

    He directed W Radio, integral station of the Prisa Group.

    He is a professor in the journalism master's program at CIDE and a radio collaborator in the groups Fórmula and Televisa Radio.

    He has been a speaker at events on journalism, digital journalism and freedom of expression organized by the New Journalism Foundation, the Congress of Digital Journalism of Spain, the World Bank, the UN, the IDB and the Spanish group Vocento.

    He is currently also editorial director of Grupo Criterio, which publishes Newsweek magazine in Spanish.

    Jeff Moriarty is Chief Digital and Product Officer at Johnston Press and has had a broad career across digital media in The New York Times Company. Before moving to the UK last year, he was Vice President of Digital Products at The Boston Globe, where he pioneered the use of responsive web design.

    James M. Moroney III is the chairman, president and Chief Executive Officer of A. H. Belo Corporation, a position he has held since September of 2013. Prior to this, he served as executive vice president of A. H. Belo since November 2007. He continues to serve as publisher and Chief Executive Officer of The Dallas Morning News, a position he has held since June 2001. 

    Moroney began his career with Belo as a sales trainee at WFAA-TV in Dallas-Fort Worth. In 1985 he became local sales manager for WFAA and later that year was promoted to general sales manager of KOTV in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He returned to Dallas in 1989 as Belo’s controller. Moroney was promoted to president and general manager of KOTV in Tulsa in January 1993. In November 1993 he became a vice president of the Broadcast Division. In January 1997, Moroney was promoted to president/Television Group assuming responsibility for the operations of all of Belo’s television stations in 15 markets across the United States. In June 1998, he was named executive vice president of Belo, with responsibility for finance, treasury and investor relations. Moroney served as president of Belo Interactive, Inc. from its formation in May 1999 until June 2001.

    Moroney has served on the board of the Television Bureau of Advertising, Belo Corp and numerous civic organizations. He presently serves on the boards of the Associated Press, the Advisory Board of the College of Communications at the University of Texas, the Bishop's Finance Council of the Diocese of Dallas, the board of The Dallas Foundation, the Board of Directors of International News Media Association and the executive committee of the board of the State Fair of Texas.

    In April 2004, Editor & Publisher selected Moroney as Publisher of the Year for his accomplishments at The Dallas Morning News. In 2012, he received the Frank W. Mayborn Award for Community Leadership from The Texas Daily Newspaper Association. 

    Moroney graduated from Stanford University in 1978 with a Bachelor of Arts in American Studies. In 1983 he received his Master of Business Administration from The University of Texas at Austin.

    Joe has been involved in TV broadcast media for nearly 20 years focusing on the sport environment in particular. He began his career and training in England with the BBC becoming the youngster sports anchor in their history.

    His Television journey has incorporated stints at not only the BBC but also Arab Radio and Television ART, StarHub, Ten Sports and Sony ESPN.

    Most recently he took the fledgling Times TV, part of the Times of Oman brand from 50,000 viewers to 29 million (by end of 2017) on multiple platforms including Facebook, Website and YouTube.

    Jana Moser is an innovation and privacy expert. She gives advice regarding data, innovation and regulation. As attorney she also answers questions concerning data protection and privacy. Previously, she was with Axel Springer SE as Head of Data Innovation, where she lead a group-wide data strategy project with focus on business and strategy.

    From 2007 Jana Moser worked as a so called knowledge architect at knowledgeTool International GmbH in Berlin before she was legal counsel and privacy officer at studiVZ, a former popular German social network. From 2011 she worked as inhouse legal counsel at Axel Springer SE for more than 2 years and investment manager for 1,5 years. As legal counsel she gave advice in particular concerning IT law, data protection and various online web and mobile services. Aside from that, she supported a digital product portfolio with special consideration of data protection laws as well as new digital innovations and ideas like bitcoin and blockchain.

    From 2008-2010 Jana Moser wrote her doctorate thesis about “Browser games and client-based online games – The contractual relationship between provider and user” at European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder).

    Since September 2017 she supports Spirit Legal LLC as of-counsel.
