    Basant Rathore is the Sr VP, Strategic Planning, Brand and Business Development at Jagran Group. In his earlier stint on the Media Planning side of the business, he has worked at agencies like Ogilvy, Mudra, Mindshare and Madison where he’s planned and bought media for leading brands across diverse categories ranging from Chocolates to Automobiles. An alumnus of the Shri Ram College of Commerce and a first batch pass out of MICA, he has conducted numerous workshops for working professionals and has taught Media Management at MICA for over 10 years as a visiting faculty.     Barbara Rauchwarter is spokeswoman of the APA-group and since 2004 leads the Marketing and Communication Department. Rauchwarter has been in the organization since 1994 where she joined the editorial department before becoming the head of the Service-News area in the multimedia sector. She is member of the board of the Austrian Marketing Association (ÖMG) and guest speaker at FH Campus 02 in Graz. Furthermore, she is co-initiator of the event series “Digital Business Trends” (DBT), one of Austria’s leading networking-communities.

He is currently acting as CTO for Postimees - the largest daily newspaper in Estonia that operates also several popular web destinations. And also serving as CEO and producer in Nukufilm - the largest and oldest stop-motion animation studio in Northern Europe. Raudsalu has also been board member of the largest computer manufacturer in the Baltics.

    DJ Rita Ray is a Club DJ, broadcaster, presenter, curator, performer and compiler.  She presents the African music review for Focus On Africa on the BBC World Service.

    As a DJ, Rita plays the whole spectrum of global music, getting her start on the ‘ones and twos’ at the legendary Mambo Inn club nights in the 1990s, she was part of the exciting revitalization of the world music scene in London. As a curator she programmes international music festivals including the acclaimed refugee arts festival Celebrating Sanctuary and Amazing Africa. Rita co-presented the first two BBC Radio 3 Awards for World Music, compiled the annual CD and was later chair of the jury; other presentation highlights include the Festival in the Desert from Mali as well as WOMAD for BBC4. She is currently a jury member of AFRIMA The All Africa Music Awards, the exciting new initiative that in partnership with the African Union (AU), nurtures and rewards artistic excellence across the continent.

    Marcelo Rech, is the editorial Vice-President RBS Group, one of the leading media groups in Brazil. With its HQ in Porto Alegre, southern Brazil, the group owns 18 TV stations, 2 community TV stations, 25 radio stations, 8 newspapers and internet portals, among other media businesses.

    Marcelo was a former reporter, specialized in internal and international conflicts. Among his coverages are five expeditions to Antarctica, the fall of the Soviet Union and the economic transition in Russia, the Gulf War, the war in the Balkans, the UN intervention in Mozambique, the crisis in Cuba and several coup d'etats and military risings in Latin America, besides many investigative pieces and extensive stories in Brazil.

    In 1993, he became managing editor of Zero Hora, the main newspaper of RBS. Between 1997 and 2008, he was the editor of Zero Hora and the other seven newspapers of the group. From 2008 to 2011, Marcelo was appointed the first Content Director of RBS, in charge of media operations in four media platforms, which involved about 1,100 journalists and 800 people from different sectors and regions.

    In 2012, he became general director of the four RBS newspapers situated in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, and in 2013 Marcelo was assigned executive director of Journalism, a position that includes the editorial ethics guidelines within the Group.

    Since January 2016, he's RBS's first-ever Editorial Vice-President.

    Since 2008, he has been a member of the board of the World Editors Forum and in 2013 he became the first chairman of the board of WAN-IFRA Latin America. He is also director of the Interamerican Press Association (IAPAS) and a member of the editorial committee of the Brazilian Newspaper Association (ANJ). He also integrates the superior councils of Palavra Aberta ("Open Word"), an institution in defense of freedom of expression in Brazil, and CONAR, the Brazilian self-regulatory system for advertising. In 2015, he was appointed by ANJ as a member of the Communication Council of the Brazilian Senate.

    Maria A. Ressa is the CEO and Executive Editor of Rappler, a social news network which uses a hearts and minds approach to news through a unique mood navigator. Rappler combines the best of professional journalism with citizen journalism and crowdsourcing.

    Ms. Ressa has been a journalist in Asia for nearly 30 years, most of them as CNN’s bureau chief in Manila (1987-1995) then Jakarta (1995-2005). She was CNN’s lead investigative reporter focusing on terrorism in Southeast Asia and wrote “Seeds of Terror: An Eyewitness Account of al-Qaeda’s Newest Center of Operations in Southeast Asia” (Free Press, 2003).

    In 2005, she took the helm of ABS-CBN News and Current affairs, for six years determining strategic direction and managing more than 1,000 journalists for the largest multi-platform news operation in the Philippines. Her work aimed to redefine journalism by combining traditional broadcast, new media and mobile phone technology for social change.

    She taught courses in Politics and the Press in Southeast Asia for her alma mater, Princeton University and in broadcast journalism for the University of the Philippines. She worked on her second book, “From Bin Laden to Facebook” as Author-in-Residence and Senior Fellow at the International Centre for Political Violence & Terrorism Research in Singapore. She is also the Southeast Asia Visiting Scholar at CORE Lab at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California.

  • Executive Director of Europe and Africa, WAN-IFRA, Germany

    As Director of Europe and Africa for the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA), Ralf is responsible for the organisation's numerous activities in the region. He has over a decade of experience in digital media working in varied roles. After completing a journalistic apprenticeship at a regional newspaper, Ralf began his career as an editor and editorial team leader for T-Online in Germany. He went on to hold leadership positions at Coop Press, ETH Zurich, Information Architects and Denon Allmedia in Switzerland. Ralf has a Masters Degree in Political Science and Rhetoric from the University of Tübingen.

    Journalist and expert in journalism ethics, professor at the University of the Andes and lecturer in social communication. He has been a columnist for El Tiempo, El Espectador, El Colombiano and El Heraldo.

    He received the national prize from Círculo de Periodistas de Bogotá in the category of press in 1993 and the National Prize of Journalism Simon Bolivar in 1985 and 1986. He also received the San Gabriel award given by the Colombian Catholic Church in 1994, the Germán Arciniegas award from Editorial Planeta in 1995 and the Latin American journalistic ethics Award granted by the Latin American Journalism Center -CELAP-, sponsored by the Florida International University, in 1997. He is the author of 22 books. In 2014 he received the recognition for journalistic excellence in the Gabriel Garcia Marquez Journalism Award.

    After studying mechanical engineering at Darmstadt Technical University, where he specialised in printing processes, Michael Rettig worked at the printing house of the Frankfurter Rundschau as well as at Medienhaus Südhessen. During this time he was responsible for managing projects for all areas of a printing operation. Since May 2009 he holds the position of Managing Director of the Druckzentrum Rhein Main.
    Together with Martin Kümmerling, he manages one of Europe's most modern newspaper printing plants, where up to 180,000 newspaper copies with 48 full-colour pages per hour can be produced on four production lines. Per year ca. 25,000 to paper are printed and more than 500 million objects inserted. Druckzentrum Rhein Main is a joint venture of Verlagsgruppe Rhein Main and Echo Medien in Darmstadt.

  • Director, Google Centre of Engineering of Latin America, Brazil

    Berthier Ribeiro-Neto holds a PhD in Computer Science from University of California, Los Angeles (1995). Since graduating, he has become a professor at the Computer Science Department at UFMG (Federal University of Minas Gerais, Brazil), where he still teaches on a part-time basis. En 1999, he published the book Modern Information Retrieval, with co-author Professor Ricardo Baeza-Yates, which became a bestseller in this area.

    In 2000, Berthier founded Akwan Information Technologies, a start up initiated by a group of professors and students from UFMG to provide search services to users and companies in Brazil. In 2005, Akwan was acquired by Google and became the Center of Engineering of Latin America, which works -among other things- on the future of Search under Berthier's leadership.

    Andy has been passionate about the linkage between creativity and commercial effectiveness throughout his career. This led to his involvement in the APEX awards, South Africa’s equivalent of the Effies, almost 15 years ago.  He has served as Chair of the APEX Jury for over 10 years, and in 2015 was chosen as a judge in the Creative Effectiveness category of the Cannes Lions Festival of Creativity, which is recognised as the world’s premier creative awards programme. 

    He began his career as a brand manager, but after seven years in marketing management, chose to move to the advertising side of the fence, joining Ogilvy & Mather in Johannesburg. 

    In 1997, Andy co-founded Yellowwood Brand Architects, the first specialist brand strategy consultancy in South Africa.  Yellowwood became part of the TBWA Group in 2009 and is recognised as a leader in its field across Africa.  Andy remains involved as Chairman of Yellowwood.

    He recently received a Lifetime Achievement Award from his peers in the brand communications industry.

  • Managing Director, Russmedia and Editor-in-Chief, Vorarlberger Nachrichten, Austria

    Gerold is heading the digital transition of Austrian-based publishing company, Russmedia’ since 2011. With an emphasis on local news and a mobile service strategy he has led the regional news portal VOL.AT (Vorarlberg Online) into the Top 5 Austrian news websites, while Vorarlberg is Austria’s second smallest province. 

    Gerold is editor-in-chief of VN, the largest newspaper of Austria’s westernmost province Vorarlberg. From 1996 to 2003, Gerold worked in Munich, Germany as tech journalist, tv producer and editor in chief for the business-radio of F.A.Z., SAT.1 Bavaria/tv.münchen and crossmedia production company AME. He has successfully completed the Media Executive Leadership Program at Northwestern University/Kellogg Business School, Evanston, IL. Gerold is board member of the International News Media Association INMA and the Global Editors Network.

    Carmen is Managing Partner at SDI Consuting in Caracas, a firm specialised in transformation and Media creation. She is also COO at Runrun.es. and consultant in Visual Journalism. She has worked as Head of the Visual Journalism and Graphics Department of the integrated newsroom  at Cadena Capriles Media Group in Caracas. In there, she was responsible for the areas of infographics, Video and Archives of the group's three brands.      She's a graduate in Social Communication, from the Central University of Venezuela and a Specialist in Project management, development and planning at the University of Monteávila. She is the creator of Venezuela's Information Design Seminar in 2007 and coordinated all its editions. She has participated as a speaker in numerous events such as "The Best of Visual Journalism" ÑH2012, III, the 5th Protecmedia Congress for Newspapers in LATAM , Digital Media LATAM 2014, or "The newsroom 2015: Trends for the Multimedia Business (SIP)". Aditionally she has been a member of the Jury for the SND Awards.

He is also a '15 Harvard Nieman Foundation Visiting Fellow, producing a research paper on the future of content and wearables. He was previously Head of Digital Audience and Content Development for The Independent and Evening Standard.

    Shannon Riley is the Strategy & Operations Director of News UK’s Commercial department, recently re-branded as The Bridge, and responsible for the strategic direction of News UK’s advertising business. After leading an extensive transformation programme of the Commercial business last year, Shannon is now focused on its constant evolution as opposed to further transformation and diversification into new revenue streams based on fit with News UK’s strategy as opposed to hype.

    Prior to News UK, Shannon has worked for and advised 50+ companies while living in San Francisco, Zurich, New York and London in a variety of roles across corporate development, corporate strategy and management consulting with her most recent role working in Yahoo’s corporate development team, where she was heavily involved in the technology, media and start-up community to grow the business via acquisition.

    Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, Shannon has an MBA from University of California, Berkeley and a BA in Business Economics from University of California, Santa Barbara.

    Esa Rimpiläinen is the Managing Director of Esa Digital. Esa Digital is a brand of Mediatalo ESA, specialized in content production, both print and digital, and media production services. Their media family includes the subscription-based newspapers Etelä-Suomen Sanomat and Itä-Häme, the website ESS.fi, the radio station Radio Voima, and the local newspapers Uusi Lahti, Hollolan Sanomat, Päijät-Häme, Nastola-lehti and Orimattilan aluelehti. ESA Digital implements digital media environments with its customers and sells display advertising for its regional and national media customer. ESA Digital's most important media environments include Neste's traffic stations and Citycon's shopping malls.

    As Senior Director of Technical Standards at IAB Tech Lab, Brendan oversees the development of standards-track documents that aim to bring efficiencies to the market.  His current focus is on the development of LEAN and DEAL guidance in response to ad blocking, as well as efforts tackling malware and fraud through the Trustworthy Accountability Group (TAG).  Brendan joined the internet revolution in 1998 with MediaHouse, a web analytics and network monitoring company sprung from the ashes of the BBS industry, and worked with Microsoft in their data collection and behavioral targeting branch.

    Guillermo is CEO of S.A. La Nación. He started his professional carreer in the telecom industry. 

    In 1994 he joined Telecom Argentina to develop and lauch its mobile operations. 

    From 2000 to 2003, he was Regional Marketing VP at AT&T Latinoamerica for Brazil and Argentina, managing many launches in the region. He then joined Telecom Personal as CEO until finally joining S.A. La Nación in 2014. He currently leads a team of journalists and business professionals seeking to transform a traditional media group into a new media company with a strong Smart & Social vision.

    Manuel Rivera

    Manuel is currently the Chairman and Director General of Grupo Expansion in Mexico, a media group composed of 17 magazines and 12 websites, one of Mexico’s most influential media companies, and a reference of ethical journalism. In 2000 he joined Grupo Expansion (GEX) as Director of Sales and has participated in the development and implementation of more than 20 publications and websites ever since. In 2005, he was promoted to CEO and as part of the senior management participated in the sale of the company to Time Inc, and subsequently as Director General (since 2008) in the successful sale to Southern Cross Group. Since 2006 he has taken Expansion Group to a digital revolution, with the launch of several successful websites and the acquisition of leading platforms (Mediotiempo.com and Metroscubicos.com), which GEX has managed to take to the next level, positioning itself as a major player in the space of the digital age. Currently, GEX is one of the most succesful companies in multi-platform & digital migration, with more than 30% of its sales and 75% of its nearly 37 million-strong audience coming from its digital media platforms (web and mobile).
