  • EVP People and Strategy, Schibsted Media Group, Norway

    Tina Stiegler became part of group management team of Schibsted Media Group in November 2015. Tina started in Schibsted as a management trainee in 2002, and has since held positions as organizational director in Verdens Gang (VG), as well as different positions in Bergens Tidende and VG. Tina was COO/CFO in Schibsted Norway from 2012, and took on the role as project lead for the reorganization project in 2015.

    Tina holds a degree in economics and business administration (“siviløkonom”) from the Norwegian School of Economics (NHH)/Pontíficia Universidad Católica de Chile, as well as studies in literature and French from the University of Bergen/Université de Nice-Sofia Antipolis.

    Torsten has been with Axel Springer for more than 30 years in various management roles of IT and technology. Torsten has been leading all the major projects in the newsroom at DIE WELT. Projects of implementing new technology and workflows for print, online and digital and the transformation process of changing the newsroom from a print-focus to a story-centric and digital-first focus.

  • Director, International News Safety Institute (INSI), UK

    Hannah Storm is Director of the International News Safety Institute (INSI), a UK-registered charity, which provides safety advice and training to journalists working in difficult and dangerous situations, from conflict to disasters, civil unrest to online harassment.   Its members include many of the world’s leading news organisations including the BBC, CNN, Reuters, Globo, AFP and NHK.   Storm is the co-author of ‘The Kidnapping of Journalists: Reporting from High Risk Conflict Zones’ and ‘No Woman’s Land: On the Frontlines with Female Reporters’, which explores the unique safety issues for women working in the media.   She also works as a freelance media consultant and trainer for different UN agencies with a specific focus on gender and the media.   Before joining INSI, Storm spent more than a decade working mainly overseas as a journalist for outlets including the BBC, The Times, Reuters and ITN, as well as a media officer for Oxfam.
  • Leonor oversees the digital video production for Univision news network website, including live video coverage for and social media platforms coordinating with the editorial team the coverage of breaking news in video.

    Raul Suarez is General Manager Global Markets for ZINIO. He started the European operations in 2005 to continue afterwards expanding into all international markets. Raul has worked in the travel industry business in the early internet years (1994-2002) where he had international management positions with specific focus to developing online commerce. He also was Director at ACCESOGROUP, a leading Media Intelligence and Communications Management Systems company based in Spain.

    Jason Subler is Managing Editor, News Strategy and Operations, Asia for Reuters, the world’s largest international multimedia news provider. Prior to taking up this Singapore-based role in 2017, Jason spent over a decade as a reporter and bureau chief for Reuters in China, running award-winning reporting teams whose work has been recognized by accolades including an Overseas Press Club award and multiple Society of Publishers in Asia (SOPA) awards. A fluent Mandarin speaker, Jason was Reuters Greater China Bureau Chief from 2012 through 2016, leading the bureaus in Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong and Taipei. He ran Reuters’ Shanghai bureau from 2010 to mid-2012, and prior to that reported from Beijing and around the country on China’s economic boom and policymaking, and the ensuing frictions with its trading partners. Jason also speaks fluent German and has a working knowledge of French.

    After a chemist apprenticeship, Susanne Sugimoto obtained her Matura (high school degree) and went on to university to study geography and business information technology. Shortly after, she joined the Zürich local council and became secretary for the Swiss Commercial Employees Association where she represented the ground crew of Swissair after the grounding of the company. Out of curiosity, she then moved to the side she used to negotiate wages with: the corporations. She first became head of media relations and then head of communications for supermarket chain Coop. After five years spent at Coop, she worked for the multinational cement company Holcim where she was appointed head of communications for Central Europe. Today, she runs a consulting firm. As managing director of Project R, her job is to keep track of the budget and day-to-day business.

    Jabed is a growth hacking marketing communication professional with 11 years of experience in the field of Communications, Brand Management & Digital Business in International and local organizations.     Previously, Ziad was the founder of Nextly, a venture-backed curation platform used by top publishers around the world. He was also an Entrepreneur in Residence, and Venture Investor with Longworth Venture Partners.

    Prior to his work as an entrepreneur and VC, Ziad worked as a Management Consultant with the Boston Consulting Group where he advised clients on a wide range of strategic and operational challenges.

    Ziad holds a B.S. and an M.Eng in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from MIT.

    Thomas coordinates the overall development of the digital content platforms of Sweden's largest local media company. He is also responsible for all strategical and operative cooperations and partnerships between MittMedia and other companies in Sweden and internationally.
  • VP Product Management, Schibsted, Norway

    Espen Sundve, VP Product Management, is leading product development for all Schibsted's media houses and the build up of "Next Gen" publishing products. He has been with Schibsted since 2008 and led product & technology initiatives in both marketplaces and publishing (lastly as Chief Product & Technology Officer in VG). He's passionate about the opportunities Internet gives in terms of disrupting established models, but stresses that this is as much about a radical change in mindset and how we work together across functions as it is about deep understanding of tech.

Megha is a former journalist and is originally from Mumbai, India.

    Dr. Iqbal Survé

    President Nelson Mandela in 1997 made an impassioned plea for black professionals to enter the mainstream economy of South Africa to bring about meaningful transformation of the social and economic landscape in order to redress the economic legacy of apartheid. This resulted in Dr. Survé leaving his first love medicine, and founding the Sekunjalo Group, which is today wholly owned by the Survé family. Today Sekunjalo is one of Africa’s most successful Investment Holding Groups with a portfolio of 176 investments and a net asset value exceeding $3.5 billion.

In South Africa, Sekunjalo has acquired Independent Media (20 major titles, more than 6 million daily print readers and 3 million online viewers).

    Two important initiatives which the Survé family and Sekunjalo has funded and committed to are: the launch of The African Independent (AI), the first continent wide print newspaper (distributed to 40 countries in Africa) which is also accompanied by the online website

    The second major initiative is the launch of The African News Agency (ANA) to provide the first news and content syndication service by Africans for an African and global audience. ANA’s success is unprecedented in African media in that it recently placed a minority shareholding of 10% with international investors at a company valuation of a billion dollars (six months after its launch).

    Dr. Iqbal Survé is a medical doctor born and educated in South Africa. He was affectionately known as the “Struggle Doctor” because of his provision of medical care towards victims of apartheid brutality including those imprisoned on the infamous Robben Island such as Nelson Mandela on his release from Robben Island in February 1990.

    Torbjörn Svensson is a PhD student at the School of informatics, University of Skövde, Sweden, and a member of the research group MTEC, Media, Technology and Culture. He is currently doing his PhD studies in a research project called Level Up, focusing on the use of gamification and game technology to increase young citizens (16-39) consumption and re-distribution of news.

    Michael Takeuchi is APAC Head of News & Publishing Product Partnerships at Google, based in Tokyo, where he is responsible for enabling publishers and users to engage with Books and News in a locally relevant way through scaled, collaborative and innovative products and partnerships to drive exciting growth for these industries. He has worked in law and technology for over 20 years. Before moving to product partnerships, Michael was Head of Legal at Google Japan and then Google Australia, where he covered a wide range of issues from litigation and transactional matters, advisory work, risk mitigation and strategic legal policy matters and, importantly, grappling with the legal challenges and issues related to online content, copyright, and defamation within the media and news industries. Before his Google life, Michael was the Asia Pacific General Counsel for Bloomberg L.P. where he was responsible for all of Bloomberg’s legal matters in the region.

    Alfian Talib

    Alfian Talib is the Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) of the New Straits Times Press Malaysia. As the CCO of NSTP, Alfian oversees the Marketing, Advertising Sales and Newspaper Sales & Distribution (NSD) departments, ensuring growth in all three commercial sections of the company. He reports to the CEO of NSTP.

    Alfian holds a Master’s in Marketing Management from New York University (USA) and a Bachelor’s Degree in Electronics Engineering from King’s College London, UK. He brings 20 years of experience in strategy, marketing planning and operational improvements primarily in the service and technology industries.

    Over the course of his career, Alfian has also been able to develop a specialisation and understanding of the SME industry with more than 10 years in serving the sector’s growth. Before NSTP, Alfian was CEO of TM Info-Media Sdn Bhd (a subsidiary of Telekom Malaysia Berhad).

    As Managing Director, Market Development, Geoff is in charge of an extensive portfolio which includes partnerships & strategy, insights & intelligence, activations & sponsorships.  His team is responsible across a host of deliverables - from engaging specific consumer segments via targeted database strategies, through to curated content syndication, channel partnerships, bespoke event activations, international licensing - and more! 

    Prior to joining SPH Magazines, Geoff was heading the strategic marketing portfolio in SPH’s Marketing Division, overseeing Business Development, Research & Analytics, Content Marketing, Product Branding & Promotions, and a Creative Lab.  Geoff was also a mentor to start-up companies housed within the SPH Plug and Play media accelerator initiative.

    Geoff was conferred the PANPA 2011 MARKETER OF THE YEAR accolade by the Pacific Area Newspaper Publishers Association for outstanding performance in marketing for a newspaper publishing company

    Ms. Su Lin Tan has been Head of Sales Strategy & Operations at Singapore Press Holdings Limited since September 5, 2016. Ms. Tan served as Deputy Head of New Digital Division at Singapore Press Holdings Limited from January 2014 to September 5, 2016. Previously, she served as the Head of Cats Classified. 

  • Assistant Archivist, National Archives Singapore

    Fiona Tan is from the National Archives of Singapore, where she currently oversees the Archives Reading Room. She provides reference services and promotes interest in the archive’s rich documentary collections. She was previously involved in the curation of the two exhibitions organised by the National Archives of Singapore, Law of the Land: Highlights of Singapore’s Constitutional Documents and Surviving the Japanese Occupation: War and its Legacies, an exhibition at the Former Ford Factory.

  • Journalism Lecturer at the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information, Singapore

    Jessica Tan is a journalism lecturer at the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information. A seasoned journalist with 15 years of industry experience, she has worked for The Straits Times, Channel i News, Dow Jones Newswires and Forbes Asia. She has been contributing to Forbes Asia since 2006.

  • Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Singapore Press Holdings Ltd.

    Anthony joined SPH as Executive Vice-President, Chinese Media Group in February 2015. Anthony was appointed Deputy Chief Executive Officer on 1 July 2016. He oversees the media businesses of SPH, which includes titles such as Straits Times, Lianhe Zaobao, Berita Harian, Tamil Murasu, as well as radio stations under SPH Radio.

    Anthony also manages the Group’s Healthcare business.

    Prior to joining SPH, Anthony was Deputy Secretary (Policy), Ministry of Health and concurrently Special Assistant to the late Mr Lee Kuan Yew (2011-2014). During his career with the Singapore Public Service spanning more than 15 years, he served in various organisations including the Ministry of Finance, Home Affairs, Manpower as well as the People’s Association.

    Anthony currently serves on the boards of Singapore Power Limited and several SPH subsidiaries. He also serves on private/non-profit organisations.

    Anthony graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1997 with a Bachelor of Social Science (Honours) in Political Science. He also has a Master of Science (Management) degree from the Stanford Business School.
