    Spending much of his career employed by media companies, including The Washington Post and The Dallas Morning News, Michael Taylor considers himself a journalist first. Now working for CCI, he focuses on technology needs of media companies throughout the Americas. He loves digging into analytics, concepts around new digital story forms, as well as emerging content distribution possibilities.

His coverage the Afghanistan trauma hospital won numerous international and national awards, and his work has appeared on the cover of the Best of Photojournalism Magazine (twice).

    Taylor was recently hired as an assistant professor at the University of Colorado Boulder.

    Matt Taylor, 25, has been working in The Times and Sunday Times newsrooms for three years on their digital strategy teams. Alongside working on widely successful news products, Matt has also worked to transform newsroom culture and workflow through the use of new tools and techniques.

    Nomusa Taylor-Dube is one part South African, one part Canadian, and all Afracanah podcast. She is diaspora many times over and now calls Nairobi, Kenya home. During the day, she runs an agriculture and digital consultancy. The rest of the time she is engaged in all things podcasting, women in business, and tacos. She is the co-host and co-founder of the Afracanah podcast which provides a platform to amplify the work and voices of young women across Africa and the diaspora. There are also a lot of jokes. Nomusa is wildly passionate about podcasting as a medium and shares what she has learnt with new and older podcasters alike. She has a TED Talk on podcasting, is the author of “Podcasting 101: A How to Guide”, has taught podcasting at the International Women in Media Foundation and Aga Khan University, and is an advisor for the upcoming Nairobi Podcast Festival.

    Serm Teck Choon is Malaysia Country Head/Head of Product at CtrlShift, a global audience solutions company. Serm is also President of Malaysian Digital Association (MDA).

    Serm oversees CtrlShift Malaysia's operation, leads product initiatives and drives strategic partnership regionally. His recent projects includes launching the 1st regional private marketplace partnering with 7 leading publishers (including The Star, Media Prima, SinChew etc) in Malaysia.

    Prior to joining CtrlShift, Serm was Digital Products Head leading the digital product development, management and marketing for Star Media Group Berhad. With 17 years of experience with the media group, he played a key role in driving The Star Online to become the leading news portal in Malaysia.

    As one of the founding members of MDA, Serm is actively involved in industry initiatives. He launched the Malaysian audience measurement currency in 2010 while he served as Measurement & Audit head at MDA. He also sat on the board of Audit Bureau of Circulations Malaysia (ABC Malaysia). His ePaper auditing framework was incorporated in 2013 ABC Audit Guideline which pushed print media to aggressively launch their digital editions.

    Serm was appointed by MDA as its representative/advisor to ABC Malaysia in Sep 2015, and was elected as President of MDA in March 2016.

    Serm is regularly invited by Malaysia's TV/radio stations (NTV7, TV3, TV2, 8TV, 988, Ai FM, CityPlus FM), local and regional print and online media to comment on digital and technology-related matters.

    Ken Teh leads news and publisher partnerships for Facebook in Asia Pacific, based in Singapore. Ken has spent 15 years in the news and TV business and took on various editorial and business roles at The Associated Press, CNN and MediaCorp. As a foreign correspondent he spent time embedded with the US Marines in Afghanistan and reported from North Korea during Pyongyang’s failed rocket launch. Ken was also anexecutive editor at Channel NewsAsia where he led efforts to drive digital innovation in the newsroom.

    Swit Tei

    Swit Tei is APAC News & Search Technical Integration Lead at Google, providing technical consultations to news organizations and data providers in making their content searchable on the web.

     

    Since joining Google in 2011, Swit has held various positions, including being part of the Trust & Safety team where he advises webmasters on user experience and how to build high-quality content. His work at Google includes the launching of movie and restaurant reviews with leading publishers globally, Rio 2016 Summer Olympics Experience and Google Crisis Response in Southeast Asia.

     

    Prior to joining Google, Swit was a solutions architect for the airline industry at Accenture. Swit holds a Masters Degree in Computer Science from Tokyo Institute of Technology. He is fluent in English, Thai and Japanese.

    Anshul Tewari

    Anshul Tewari is an Ashoka Fellow and the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Youth Ki Awaaz, an award-winning and India's largest online platform for young people to speak up on issues of importance, through a critical approach to journalism and crowd-sourcing. Anshul is also a United Nations ITU Fellow for youth innovation and a World Summit Youth Award laureate. His expertise lies in building sustainable, democratic and people driven media platforms. He also serves on the board of Collectively, a nonprofit focused towards engaging the current generation over sustainable development issues.

    Denis Teyssou

    Denis Teyssou is the head of AFP Medialab R&D since June 2007. Denis is a journalist with a background in informatics and innovation management (from CNAM institute in Paris). He has been participating in several FP7 and H2020 EU funded projects as well as French funded R&D projects, mainly from the National Research Agency (ANR). He is currently the innovation manager of the InVID European project about video verification on social networks. He is a member of the Global Alliance for Media Innovation launched by the World association of newspapers and publishers (WAN-IFRA).

    Denis Teyssou is the editorial manager of Agence France-Presse (AFP) Medialab, a team dedicated to Research and Development and innovation projects. Being a journalist and an open source geek, Denis has led AFP’s participation in three European funded projects, two FP7 (Papyrus, GLOCAL), and a running innovation action Horizon2020 InVID, on user-generated video content verification. 

    He has also led for AFP seven French funded R&D projects : five from the National Research Agency (RMM2, EDyLex, OTMedia, ChronoLines and the running ASRAEL) and two from the French government fund FUI (SCRIBO, SAMAR).

    Dominik Thesing works as Publishing Director at the Berlin based media house „Der Tagesspiegel“. Before that he was Chief Operating Officer (COO) at Quadriga, an educational and publishing company directed towards senior professionals. As the responsible board member, Dominik was in charge of finance, IT, structures, and workflows. From 2014 to 2016 Dominik was managing director and COO at WPP owned digital agency KKLD*, based in Berlin and New York City. Dominik started his career at Thesing in 2000 at Deutsche Lufthansa AG, afterwards he joined advertising agency Scholz & Friends as consultant, becoming managing director and member oft he partner board later. Dominik holds a master in economics and political science.

In 2009, Patrick joined BNP Paribas Wealth Management, where he was promoted Head of Middle East and North Africa in 2011. Patrick graduated from EDHEC (Ecole Des Hautes Etudes Commerciales Lille) in 1993, and holds an Executive MBA from INSEAD.

    Adam Thomas is the Director of the European Journalism Centre, an independent European non-profit connecting journalists with new ideas. He is an award-winning journalism and technology leader. In his previous role as Chief Product Officer at Storyful, he was responsible for the vision and delivery of over 20 innovative journalism products to 150 of the world’s biggest media organisations. Adam joined Storyful in July 2013 as director of Business Development. The company was acquired by News Corp in December 2013, and has grown from 27 people to over 120 in New York, Hong Kong, London, Sydney and Dublin. Previously, he was Head of Communications at the international nonprofit Sourcefabric, where he managed communications strategy and community growth. Adam has worked on media development projects in over 50 countries worldwide.

    Mark Thompson became president and chief executive officer of The New York Times Company on November 12, 2012. He is responsible for leading the company’s strategy, operations and business units. Mr. Thompson has been instrumental in accelerating the pace of The Times’s digital transformation. Under his leadership, The Times became the first news organization in the world to pass the one million digital-only subscription mark. Before joining the Times Company, Mr. Thompson served as director-general of the BBC from 2004, where he reshaped the organization to meet the challenge of the digital age, ensuring that it remained a leading innovator with the launch of services such as the BBC iPlayer. He also oversaw a transformation of the BBC itself, driving productivity and efficiency through the introduction of new technologies and bold organizational redesign. Mr. Thompson joined the BBC in 1979 as a production trainee. He helped launch “Watchdog” and “Breakfast Time,” was an output editor on “Newsnight,” and was appointed editor of the “Nine O’Clock News” in 1988 and of “Panorama” in 1990. He became controller (programming and scheduling chief) for the TV network BBC2 and director of television for the BBC before leaving the BBC in 2002 to become C.E.O. of Channel 4 Television Corporation in the United Kingdom.

EMGE produces forecasts and research information in the form of multi-client reports, individual market sector research projects and commissioned market surveys. For over quarter of a century, EMGE has been publishing regular global graphic paper market reports and forecasts, including the EMGE World Newsprint Markets Report. Gary began his career in 1993, working for Pulp & Paper International (PPI) as a paper market reporter, focusing on packaging and wastepaper markets. In 1997, he joined International Papermaker magazine, where he continued reporting on the world’s paper business. In 2001, he moved to Germany to become Editor-in-Chief of International Paper World (IPW) magazine. He was recruited by EMGE in 2004, and has since become one of the firm’s leading consultants, as well as the chief writer of its forecast reports. He regularly makes presentations on EMGE forecasts at events and conferences around the world. In his free time, Gary volunteers with the Salvation Army, working with homeless people.

Prior to that, she lead a team of video journalists at the BBC who used the latest technology available to create innovative quality videos for digital and TV properties. An Iceland native, Thordar is based in London and a graduate of King's College London and the University of Iceland.

It has been covered by media outlets including The Wall Street Journal, The Guardian, and Le Figaro; and been honoured by the International Symposium on Online Journalism in Austin, Texas, where he won 'best paper' over four consecutive years.
