The National Palace of Sintra

This castle was probably built on the site of the original palace of the Moorish walis and comprises different wings built during the reigns of different kings. It is one of the most important examples of Portuguese royal architecture and has the largest collection of Mudejar tiles in the country. It's two great chimneys over the kitchen are the symbol of Sintra.

Casino Estoril

The largest casino in Europe offers an extensive array of casino games, daily cabaret or music-hall shows and also holds temporary art exhibitions, from various types of arts and crafts.

Landscapes and beaches

It is not easy to decide on a favourite beach in Cascais as there are many to choose from. The modern and well equipped Cascais Marina represents the region's nautical tradition. Another amazing one is Guincho beach, a sandy beach with dunes and pine trees, ideal for windsurfing, surfing and kitesurfing. Tamariz beach, where the Estoril Convention centre is located is an eyeful in itself. You will find calm waters at the Bay of Cascais. Pescadores beach is known for its traditional fishing crafts.

Penha Longa Atlantic

This is a luxurious resort, with a golf course designed by Robert Trent Jones II. It is situated at the foothills of the Serra de Sintra, near Lagoa Azul and is in perfect harmony with the landscape.

The National Palace of Queluz

This beautiful masterpiece, built by Infante Pedro, the youngest brother of King José, was successively altered and enlarged until the end of the 18th century. It is surrounded by gardens decorated with statues, balustrades, lakes and tiles, representing Baroque style and society.
