Chief Operating Officer, WAN-IFRA, Germany

Thomas Jacob was appointed as the Chief Operating Officer of WAN-IFRA in 2012. In this role, he has responsibilities for developing and implementing the organizations strategy to be the platform for exchange of ideas, information and experiences among the global news publishing industry. Prior to that he was the Deputy CEO, taking care of the regional operations.

Before WAN-IFRA, he worked for DMG Media, publisher of Daily Mail and Metro in UK. As the International Development Director, he identified and evaluated digital media companies in Asia for potential acquisition. He also conceptualized and launched a compact midmarket newspaper, Mail Today for the Indian market as a JV with the India Today Group.

Thomas Jacob is an MBA with high honors from the University of Chicago, Booth School of Business. As a summa cum laude, he is also a member of Beta Gamma Sigma, an honor society for management in the United States. 

He is a trained engineer in electronics and telecommunications, having graduated with distinction from the National Institute of Technology, Suratkal, in India. He also underwent advanced studies in computer networking at ICIS, Singapore.

Chief Operating Officer, JoongAng Ilbo, South Korea

Changhee PARK has been the COO at JoongAng Ilbo since 2014. He has been in charge of the Corporate Strategy Team at JoongAng Media Network (JMnet) which is the holding company of the JoongAng Media Group. The JMnet is the largest media group in Korea managing 25 subsidiaries such as JTBC (Broadcasting Network), J Contentree (Entertainment Company), etc. JoongAng Ilbo is one of the major newspaper companies with over 1.3m circulation.
Prior to taking his position as the CFO, Park was in charge of M&A and business development regarding new business of the group. He led the acquisition of the sports newspaper company ‘Ilgan Sports’, a public corporation, and the expansion of its business portfolio into cable TV channels, multiplex theaters, and magazine business over the following four years. After changing its name to J Contentree, the company has become an entertainment company renowned for its diverse portfolio.
Park has started his career at JoongAng Ilbo as a reporter in 1992. He mainly worked as a business journalist prior to 2000 when he went to the States for an MBA degree at Wharton School. When Park joined the Corporate Strategy Team at JoongAng Ilbo, the very first business project he participated was about launching the Forbes in Korea.  The first CEO of the Forbes Korea at that time, Sohn, Byung-soo, and Park visited the Headquarter to meet with Mr. Steve Forbes and other key persons.

Chief Technology Officer, NDTV convergence

Kawaljit Singh Bedi is the Chief Technology Officer at NDTV Convergence (NDTV’s Digital Media Division) and Senior Vice President, Strategy for the NDTV group. Kawaljit has been with the NDTV Group for over 17 years and oversees technology, user-experience and product road-map for NDTV's websites and apps. He is also the Managing Director of Gadgets 360, India's largest technology and gadgets website.

Kawaljit has won several international awards in the field of innovation including Commonwealth Broadcasting Association award for Innovative engineering and NAB International Broadcasting Excellence award. He and his team have also filed for multiple patents in the fields of digital media and broadcast engineering. He has been trained in digital journalism from the Thomson Foundation in Cardiff, UK. 

Co-founder, The Quint, India

Ritu Kapur is the co-founder of Quint. She used to head Programming at History Channel, was Features Editor at CNN IBN, where she launched the popular CJ (Citizen Journalist) Show, among others. She has also conceived and produced Bhanwar, a docu-drama based on real-life incidents.  Her shows ran to popular and critical acclaim, and went on to win several awards. She has also led successful campaigns like Register To Vote and Power Of 49, that championed a manifesto for women, who comprise 49 per cent of the population.

Associate Editor, Business Line

Vinay Kamath is currently holding Associate Editor of Business Line, a well known business daily from Kasturi and Sons Ltd.   Vinay had earned his degree in Economics from Vivekananda College, Chennai, consequently a Diploma in Journalism from the Times School of Journalism, New Delhi in 1986. He started his career as a sub-editor with The Times of India Bangalore and subsequently worked for Financial Express and BusinessWorld magazine in Chennai and for The Economic Times in New Delhi in various functions as an editor, reporter and feature writer. A two-year stint in television news with TV 18 in Chennai followed after which he joined BusinessLine in 1998.    In BusinessLine, for several years, he was editor for Catalyst, BusinessLine's section on marketing & advertising. Later he was chief of news bureau for Chennai before moving to the Campus edition of BusinessLine and then launched bloncampus.com, a web site for B-schoolers and aspirants, along with a young team in May 2015.    In 1995, he did a short course in journalism at the University of Westminster, London, as part of the FCO's Chevening Young Indian Journalists Programme.

Anant Goenka

Anant has been passionate about Journalism since an early age. He joined the Express Group in 2012 with two clear objectives: to grow Express’ legacy of hard-hitting independent journalism and its reach in both the print and digital medium. Digital quickly emerged as his pet project and over the past four and half years, the Group has grown from 4 million unique visitors to 52 million unique visitors a month.

Over the past four and half years, indianexpress.com has emerged as India’s 2nd largest newspaper website and the Group one of the 4 largest digital news players. Even in regional media, Loksatta – one of Mumbai’s largest newspapers – has emerged the largest Marathi website in the country.

Before joining the Express, Anant worked at Spenta Multimedia and at Bloomberg’s commercial division at their London office. During his college days, he was a recognised blogger on The Huffington Post and continues to write in The Indian Express- his recent piece on Punjab drugs was quite popular.

He is a Dean's Scholar in print journalism from the Annenberg School of Journalism, Los Angeles, where for two years he was a teaching assistant for the course History of American News Media and for Entertainment News and Society. He is very passionate about aviation and motoring. He enjoys all kinds of live music, especially modern Jazz, and is a pretty terrible drummer himself.

In last 18 months, in his leadership BBC Hindi has launched LINE, Audioboom and Instagram official accounts and revamped the Youtube channel. He was the leading member of the team that launched the BBC Hindi website, bbchindi.com.

Director, Global Advisory - WAN-IFRA, Germany

Ben is a leading expert on digital media, and at WAN-IFRA he has the task of providing independent advice on digital strategy and organisational change. He will also lead the various WAN-IFRA initiatives to support the media industry in its transformation.

Previously, he was Shaw Media's Chief Digital Officer, and focused in driving digital revenue and audience for their digital products in the United States. Shaw was also the company’s CTO and previously IT Director. He oversaw the alignment of all technologies to Shaw’s audience and revenue growth strategies. He was also actively involved in optimizing Shaw Media's over 100 print and digital publication products and workflows. He is a licensed Apple iOS Developer and an Apple Certified Help Desk Specialist.
